How to get into fighting games?
Hello,
Sorry for poor formatting I don't really post on reddit.
I feel like every time I try to pick up a fighting game I just get brutalized non stop for hours until I give up. I try learning combos and watching beginner guides, and every match I play, even in the lowest of elos, I feel like I'm going against a 30 year fighting game veteran who has mastered everything there is to master.
I want to get into Tekken 8 so I can play with some people I know, but I've done all the combo challenges for my character and I've watched guides on how to play him and the game, and I still feel like I can't find a footing in online play at all.
I know this is a somewhat common feeling among people who just start learning, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I should focus on or what kept them going when they were struggling to learn because it just feels so pointless when I lose, and it feels like I get lucky whenever I win, and it just makes me want to give up so badly.
Thanks.
Edit: Thank you so much everyone for the tips, especially to focus on defense. I've been winning so many games by playing a bit more passive and looking for proper openings that I felt like I couldn't find before. This is probable the 5th time I've tried getting into fighting games and I genuinely feel like I've found my footing for the first time and it feels amazing!
