(area was completely dark. Had to shine a light to see)

I bought 5 otocinclus about almost 2 months ago. 2 have died since then and the other 3 never come out and always hide. I know they have to be in groups but i dont want to but more from the pet store because of health issues and what not. But they are definitely hiding all the time cause theres only 3. I dont know what to do. Should I just let them be or buy some more? I have no idea where the others are.
