It’s kind of sad how many people stop making art once they become adults

I was thinking about this lately after talking to a friend who used to paint all the time growing up. Not professionally or anything she just genuinely loved it. Same with people I knew who played music wrote stories took photos made little films or spent hours creating random things for fun. Then somewhere along the way adulthood happened and almost everyone quietly stopped. Now when people talk about creative hobbies it’s usually framed like I used to do that instead of something they still make time for now. I think part of it is exhaustion, by the time people finish work deal with responsibilities and try to keep their lives together there’s barely any energy left for creativity but I also think a lot of adults start feeling embarrassed about making things unless they’re exceptionally good at it or making money from it somehow.

Kind of makes me sad because creating things used to feel so normal when we were younger. Nobody cared if it was useful or productive, people just did it because it made them feel something.
