Alterations scouting?

Hi all, I'm approaching the point in time where I need to start my bridal alterations. For folks who did their alterations in NYC: did you just visit/settle on one spot, or did you visit multiple specialists for a consult? I want to price compare about 3-4 different shops in Manhattan before settling on an alterations specialist.

Hi guys- my (35F) first choice dress fell through and now I have a week(!) to find a suitable option for a cocktail dress code ceremony/reception. Wedding is in the evening (6:30pm) on Long Island. I'm the bride's SIL, if that helps. Is this too casual?! It's chiffon, but the cut and the pattern make it more dressed down IMO. I do own this dress, and it comes to my knees.
