Need solo piece recommendations for a college audition
Basically what the title says! I recently graduated high school and am hoping to continue playing in orchestra in college, and besides the two required excerpts my college wants us to pick a solo piece less than five minutes long that exhibits both fast and slow parts. For context:
- I would classify myself as intermediate. I’ve been playing for about ten years, but I stopped private lessons freshman year of high school and was never really a soloist
- I’m definitely used to orchestra pieces more than solo. If it helps to gauge my skill level, my school has played pieces like Finlandia, Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, and Symphonie Fantastique (on second violin) and Hadyn 104 and Suk’s Serenade in E Flat Major (first violin). I was considering playing an excerpt from an orchestra piece but wasn’t sure if that’s allowed in the audition world.
Any advice is appreciated!
