Is Reclassifying in Track getting out of control?

If you do not know, reclassifying is purposely repeating a grade (usually 8th grade) in order to gain an athletic advantage. Seems to be common with above average athletes at 13/14 but are now dominant as a “middle schooler” pushing 16 and setting “national middle school” records, especially in a lot of field events. Then they go in as very old freshman to set “freshman” records etc.

Met a middle schooler at a meet who was only one month younger than sophomores on our high school track team. (Needless to say he was dominant against 8th graders but would have been middle pack against his own age groups).

There’s a reason boys switch to a 1.6k discus at 15. Anyway just a trend, especially seeing constant “middle schooler record!” all over social media with insane numbers attributed to kids driving cars.
