Lotta Kemppinen goes sub 11 (10.95) as a first finn ever (+2.3m/s)

Previous "all conditions" finnish record was 11.13, and that was over 43yrs ago.
VERY unlucky with the winds.

The reactions from the commentators say it all.

Think it's worth a post.

Today I learned about the story of Ciara Mageean (W 1500m European champion)

Was going through YT and came across the highlight of recently concluded 2026 European Athletics Championships. In the beginning I hearing the commentator speak about Ciara Mageen (Ireland), who was the winner in the women's 1500m in the 2024 edition. She could not join this time as she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in bowel in June 2026.

It is such a big shocker that even the healthiest humans at peak body performance can get cancer. Created this video so more people could know about her.

Videos taken from Eurpean Athletics YT channel.

Will Lachlan Kennedy ever hit a 9.7 in the 100m?

With his current record of 9.85 in the 100m and still being very young could we see him attack 9.7 in his career?

Oooo I love Keely. She's a fighter!

Keely Hodgkinson wasn't initially gonna run in the Diamond League meet in Zurich, but has opted to join and will compete against Werro, Odira, Broeders-Bol AND Hunter-Bell. This is like a world championships final! Didn't expect this to happen until September. Many thanks to all these women.

Aerodynamics in running

I’ve watched a lot of cycling; aerodynamics is always a key factor there. This year, the sports bra debate has really come to the fore in the time trials.

What’s the situation in athletics? When I watch it, I get the feeling they couldn’t care less about aerodynamics. Especially when it comes to the women’s hairstyles.

Obviously, aerodynamic drag does have an impact – that’s why they run in each other’s slipstream.

What considerations are there in this regard, and at what distances is it most likely to have an impact?

Why is the women 800m so fast and competitive now?

My theory is that women have been this fast for a while, but girls who were fast would be pushed early on towards the sprints (400m and 400mH in particular) whilst those with a bit more endurance would be directed towards the 1000m, 1500m and maybe 5000m. I'm sure that's been the experience of many girls in the 90s, possibly up to the 2010s too.

This attitude created a relatively weak field at elite level (bar some exceptional runners like Jelimo and Mutola) for way too many years.

Some athletes are now going the opposite way: Femke, Moraa and Georgia Hunter-Bell for example, and setting times on par with the doped 80s athletes.

I'm keen to read what you think.

Hunter Bell sets sights on Hodgkinson, Werro and Broeders-Bol in 800m clash of titans | European Athletics Championships

"“There is still a lot left of the season,” said Hunter Bell. “I haven’t done a paced 800m yet, I have one coming up with the speedy girls. I am really excited to throw my hat into the ring there. Had a bit of fomo when I saw them on the podium. It’s such an exciting time. I am really happy.”

There are some who believe that a fast-paced 800m in Zurich could get close to the world record of 1min 53.28sec, set in 1983 by the Czech Jarmila Kratochvilova, especially with the Swiss star Werro having run 1:53.80 this season – the third fastest in history. "

Neuromuscular Fatigue

major studies found that after physical exercises like max effort sprints, resistance training or heavy weight training your bodys neuromuscular system needs between 48 to 72 hours to fully recover. with these findings we can conclude that between max every days there should be a gap of approximately 2-3 days if the goals is maximum efficiency. This does not mean for any reason that you should stop training these days but the key word here is the effort output

Silesia 1500m men start list

Even with the big names, only one of the participants has a sub 3:30 this season. I can see multiple guys going under that this race with Jakob back, even if he doesn't win.

Why did Kate O Connor present Ireland at the Euros, but Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth?

*Represent

If she represented NI at the Commonwealth Games, then surely she should have represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the European Championships.
