I built a free database of every college track & field program (1,081 men's and 1,176 women's) with roster, cost, aid, and budget data

Using public data, I've been building a college athletic program directory to help families and athletes research programs that actually fit them.

People in other subs have found it useful, so figured I'd share it here too:

One thing I found interesting: the median D1 operating budget for track & field is around $57K. D3 is around $22K and JUCO is around $15K. So D1 is clearly higher, but the gap is not as extreme as in most other sports. I’m not sure why though — any thoughts?

The directory also has athletic aid, net price, roster sizes, school info, and program-level data. Mostly intended as an early research tool for athletes/families trying to figure out what programs might actually fit.

For people who joined club track later in high school, did you naturally settle into one event pretty quickly, or did you spend time around different event groups first?

I’m a newer track athlete who started later in high school, and I was curious about what the transition into club track looked like for other people in a similar position. When you first joined a club, did you naturally settle into one event group pretty quickly, or did you spend time around multiple areas of the sport first? I’ve recently gotten interested in track after my first season and noticed I’m drawn to a few different events for different reasons. I’m mainly curious about how other athletes experienced that early stage of figuring out where they fit best within the sport.

Mallard Creek HS Track robbed of state championship!

A state athletic association stripped Mallard Creek High School's track team of their state championship based on questionable grounds—and these athletes deserve better.

These students trained relentlessly, sacrificed personal time, and performed exceptionally to win that title fairly. They followed all the rules and competed with integrity. But instead of celebrating their accomplishment, they're watching it get erased without clear communication or transparency about why.

I started a petition asking the state athletic association and local school sports authorities to actually review this decision. We need them to look at the evidence, involve independent judges, and treat these athletes with the fairness they earned on the track.

These kids put in the work. They deserve to have it recognized.

If you think that matters—or if you've seen something like this happen before—consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?

1500m question

I am 14 male, and I don't really run 1.5K by itself, I normally run it within 5ks and 7ks. I came 2/6 overall, but 1/3 in my age group. I did a 5:12, but the winner overall did a 4:25. Is a 5:12 good or not for my age?

800m race for beginner

Hey, I am a complete newbie in running but I have to run a 800m track tommorow. I used to run with the adios 9 but I didn’t feel any boost compared to shoes like alphaflys. I was wondering which shoes should I wear tommorow to get a PR: spikes, adios9, or very good marathon shoes?

Congrats to Jess Schilder for throwing a new DL record of 21.09m in the shot put

As well as being a new DL record (previous record was 21.02m from Valerie Adams in 2012), her mark of 21.09m is also a Dutch national record, the farthest throw in the world in 15 years and the first ever 21m+ throw from a female athlete using the rotation.

Is Reclassifying in Track getting out of control?

If you do not know, reclassifying is purposely repeating a grade (usually 8th grade) in order to gain an athletic advantage. Seems to be common with above average athletes at 13/14 but are now dominant as a “middle schooler” pushing 16 and setting “national middle school” records, especially in a lot of field events. Then they go in as very old freshman to set “freshman” records etc.

Met a middle schooler at a meet who was only one month younger than sophomores on our high school track team. (Needless to say he was dominant against 8th graders but would have been middle pack against his own age groups).

There’s a reason boys switch to a 1.6k discus at 15. Anyway just a trend, especially seeing constant “middle schooler record!” all over social media with insane numbers attributed to kids driving cars.

Do you believe these athletes would have broken the decathlon world record if they had focused entirely on track and field from a young age?
