MLB legend pitcher Tommy John, who played 26 seasons between 1963 and 1989, has died at 83.

MLB legend Tommy John has died at 83.

John passed away peacefully at his home in Florida, surrounded by his wife, Cheryl, and family, according to his agent Mike Maguire.

The four-time All-Star pitched 26 MLB seasons, won 288 games, and finished his career with a 3.34 ERA.

His legacy extends far beyond the mound. After suffering a torn UCL in 1974, John underwent an experimental elbow reconstruction performed by Dr. Frank Jobe. The procedure allowed him to return to baseball and eventually became known worldwide as “Tommy John surgery.”

John went on to win 164 more games after the operation.

One of the most influential names in baseball history, both for what he accomplished and for the medical breakthrough forever attached to his name.
