The Olympics is meant to be the biggest stage for a majority of sports in the world and the pinnacle of sports as a whole, so how come the biggest sport in the world is so, dare I say, disrespected?

I think I heard something a while ago about FIFA not wanting it to rival the World Cup but the argument doesn’t make sense to me as the World Cup has already been built up as the Premier footballing event and the one everyone wants to win

The Olympics, despite being the biggest stage for so many sports, ends up having their golds put as just footnotes in the listings of the biggest names’ achievements. How often do you hear football fans talk about Messi and Di Maria in 2008, Neymar in 2016, Dani Alves in 2020

With the way FIFA have already put the view on Olympic football as a tournament most fans shouldn’t care about when it should be up there as one of the most important considering the calibre of the Olympics as a whole, it does make me think that what would be the harm in expanding the the tournament to add more top level players

Now, all of these notes only apply to the Men’s tournament because Women’s is best on best, but that only further adds to the “why isn’t this best on best”. I’m sure there’s more reasons but if it’s simply to protect the legacy of the World Cup from the Olympics taking over then I just think it’s a stupid argument

I think this year was one of the best winners reprises in years and I have a few reasons for that

Dara doing chair choreo in the green room was iconic, the fact it was a stroke of luck that she won and there were already chairs there it made it all the better especially when you had the dancers rushing in to grab a chair and join in just made that better

Her standing at the top of the stairs in front of the crowd as they roared her on at the star of the second verse is an image I’ll never forget and when she made her way down and started strutting her way to the stage and the amazing camera angle where you could see so many flags and arms waving in the air is so special

Not to mention she also managed to get to the end to do the full ending choreography is so amazing

There’s also something so special about having it done on the way to the stage that a full on-stage reprise just doesn’t hit the same. This is a winners reprise I’ll actually come back to as the others just feel kind of vanilla or more of the same when they get the staging out but Dara’s is one I’ll never forget and get so jealous of that I wasn’t in the arena for it

So can we please make the green room to stage walkway, and the Mello-style “sing to the stage” permanent? It would make the winners reprise feel so much more victorious

As a Brit born in 2007, I’ve spent over half my life with my country either in Brexit negotiations or out of the EU and I didn’t have a say as I was only 9 at the time of the referendum in 2016 (funnily enough I do remember being annoyed just because of how much Brexit was in the news)

Since I’m now 19 and old enough to have my say in elections I’ve been getting rather into politics with reading into what parties are for what and I’m mature enough to have a vision as to what’s best for me and I’ve got a party in mind for who I’m going to vote for by the next UK General Election, set to be my first political vote

I’m too young to really notice a difference in everyday life pre and post Brexit, I want to hear anecdotes from Brits who are old enough to remember life pre-Brexit and see just how different the UK is. I know from seeing a lot of stuff from news that the UK took a massive hit and that it was a mistake to leave but I want to know just how bad we were hit since leaving the EU
