HORRIFIED at the BBC

Just discovered an article on the BBC and I am disgusted to read it.At a time when everyone up and down the land are struggling to make ends meet , some surviving on food banks to feed themselves and just read the amount that they are paying out in salaries...top of the list Scott Mills FFS (£750,000 reported for last year prior to dismissal as a sex pest) ..instead of Burnham focusing on cheap bus fares etc maybe he should be doing something to rein this lot in - Starting at the top and working down.

I hate how in the show hunted the hunters speak to people so disrespectfully

Especially when the ground hunters are talking to people who may or may not have helped a fugitive. I’m watching the current series of the celeb version and they’re after telling a poor woman that she should be ashamed of herself because she helped a team. It’s not like they’re real criminals. And she didn’t even know them, she helped them out of the goodness of her heart and shared her cancer story with them. And earlier in the series another ground hunter scolded the wife of a fugitive for smiling, saying that there’s nothing funny about the situation. Honestly you would think they actually had done something.

Edit: omg can everyone stop saying it’s a fake show. They legally cannot mislead viewers and contestants, and the expectations for contestants are laid out in the application process.

Yes you are expected to taunt the hunters and move every few days otherwise it wouldn’t make good tv. I imagine they reshoot some moments if the camera didn’t catch it right, like if someone was hiding in plain sight and the camera man can’t give away the position, I definitely remember seeing chase and hiding scenes where the weather looked slightly different.

It’s no more fake than love island or the chase. It’s obvious how they replicate the powers of the state to anyone with a brain, it doesn’t need to be spelled out to you.

There is a go between man that handles all the information and decides whether to give that info to the hunters if they did the work, now since he is ex law enforcement I wouldn’t be surprised if he personally was slightly biased towards the hunters but as far as the structure of the show goes, it’s supposed to be an unbiased third party.

As for in the hunters hq, they just edit the police work terribly, if you watch the early series they always mention how it took them a few hours or days to get the information, and it’s probably the same now, apart from any improvements made to technology. But they edit it to make it look like they get the information within seconds. Probably due to pressure from actual law enforcement, if people think they can catch you that fast after committing a crime, it probably acts as a deterrent.

Plus nowadays it looks like most of their detective work comes from the fugitives social media or a known associates, so that in itself would be instantaneous.

Doctor Foster series three first look and further casting revealed

The BBC has revealed a first look and the further casting for the third and final instalment of Doctor Foster, coming to BBC iPlayer and BBC One next year. The five-part series - created and written by Mike Bartlett, and made by Drama Republic (Riot Women, One Day) in association with Fictional Company and TeamAkers Productions - will see Suranne Jones, Bertie Carvel and Tom Taylor reprise their roles as Gemma, Simon and Tom after almost a decade.

Announced on August 19, Slow Horses and Criminal Record star Dustin Demri-Burns joins the cast as Callum, Gemma’s new partner, with Adam James returning as Gemma’s neighbour Neil, and Thusitha Jayasundera reprising her role as Ros, Gemma’s friend and colleague, and Anna Madeley returning as Lucy.

New cast for series three also includes Rosalie Craig (Riot Women, Serpent Queen), Gracie Oddie-James (The Husbands, Grantchester), Lois Baglin (Bait, Surface Season 2), Karima McAdams (Hijack, Dune: Prophecy), Anjana Vasan (Demon 79, Wicked Little Letters), Michael Balogun (Top Boy, Sherwood), Christina Balmer (Mobland 2, House of Guinness), Justin Salinger (Hijack, Hanna) and Ash Tandon (Malpractice, Bodyguard).

Ten years ago, on discovering her husband Simon was having an affair, Gemma Foster enacted a masterful revenge. But the fallout was devastating when her 15-year-old son Tom disappeared. Now, in series three, Gemma is still a GP, still in the same house, but on the brink of a fresh start: she has met someone new and is getting married. But as the wedding day draws closer, and friends and family gather, shadows from the past begin to re-emerge threatening both her happiness and her reputation. As Gemma fights to protect those she loves and expose whoever’s intent on hurting her, will she be able to put the past to bed, dispense justice, and claim the future she deserves, before it is too late?

Rigsby and Philip - Rising Damp

Rising Damp is a classic comedy but I guess I'm asking, what do people think these days about the relationship between these two in Rising Damp?

I'm GenX, so as a youngster I watched this without thinking too much about it. When Rigsby mocks Philip's race (which happens often) the audience laughs. I'm assuming they are laughing at him but it's hard to tell, this being the 70s.

Cleverly written by Eric Chappell, Philip shows Rigsby's foolish views for what they are and he always outsmarts him. Miss Jones, Alan and pretty much every other character don't have a problem with Philip's colour. Don Warrington, who played Philip, has always seemed pretty chill about it.

In the end it's Rigsby who is clearly wrong in regards to Philip and we understand that. Watching it now, I laugh just as much, but I do find Rigsby's cringe worthy comments on Philip's colour mentioned too often. It is what it is. I can only imagine a younger audience being shocked and maybe put off, for what still is, a very funny comedy.

[Fully lost] Life Swap (1980), BBC predecessor to the reality TV show Wife Swap

In 1980, BBC1's Nationwide program aired "Life Swap", which was a one-off four-episode miniseries that followed a similar format as the modern reality show "Wife Swap".

In the show, a teacher from Newcastle named Myra Robinson swapped lives with wealthy London aristocrat Julia Stonor. Just as in Wife Swap, the two wives lived with the other wives' families and followed each others' daily routines, and then came together at the end to talk about their experience. The main difference appears to be that here, the wives didn't get to impose their rules on the other families.

Surprisingly I haven't been able to find any clips of this and barely any 21st-century media coverage except this article which described it as the UK's "first ever reality TV show". This despite the fact that it is a notable part of UK and global TV history, and Robinson in particular became somewhat of a celebrity after the show aired.

Slow Horses Season 6

Just seen a new 2 minute Trailer for the new season out in September. I’ve read the books but I would strongly suggest staying away from the trailer to avoid a pretty considerable spoiler.

What's the appeal of Mike Brewer?

I enjoy watching watching Wheeler Dealers. For me it's all about the mechanic part of the programme where the car is being repaired and restored ready for resale. The 3 mechanics they've had over the years are very knowledgeable chaps.

Now this is not a personal attack, the guy does what he does but I don't get the appeal of Mike Brewer. He's on loads of other stuff and has been around for years but he doesn't bring anymore personality to a show than someone off the street.

Are the TV execs seeing something I'm not? Am I wrong? Is there a fanbase?

Who are the man and woman presenters- are they a real life couple, or is it just an act? They're obviously actors by profession, so maybe they're has beens off telly, I don't know.
