Is an NIT Warangal research internship actually valued in the industry?

Hey everyone, I’m at a crossroads and could really use some perspective from folks currently working in the industry.

I am a 3rd-year B Tech student currently doing a research internship at NIT Warangal, where I am developing an anti-UAV algorithm.

To the seniors and hiring managers here: Is a research-based internship at an institute like NITW genuinely valued for corporate roles today? I’m trying to weigh the brand value of the institute against the "practical" experience of a standard corporate or startup role.

Specifically, I'm wondering:

  1. Brand vs. Experience: How does a research internship stack up against a corporate internship when you evaluate a fresher's resume?
  2. Real-World ROI: Does algorithmic, research-heavy work prepare you for the realities of a full-time SDE role, or is it too disconnected from industry practices?

If you feel this isn't the most optimal path, what should I pivot to? Should I double down on Open Source contributions, grind LeetCode, or focus entirely on getting into an early-stage startup for more hands-on development?

Looking forward to your insights!
