Starting Wegovy - what do you wish you knew from day one?
I’m getting ready to start Wegovy and wanted to ask people who’ve actually been through it what made the biggest difference for them early on.
A bit about me: fitness has been a big part of my life for years. I’m usually in the gym 5–6 days a week, I’ve worked with trainers and coaches, tracked calories and macros, prioritized protein, and put a lot of effort into managing my weight and staying active.
Despite all of that, over the last several months I’ve gained more than 50 pounds that I really haven’t been able to explain or get under control. More recently, I’ve also been dealing with a bad back injury that has seriously disrupted my normal training and activity.
At this point, I’m trying to heal my back while also dealing with the fact that the extra weight itself is making things harder physically, so after talking it through with my doctor we decided to try Wegovy at the lowest dose.
I’m looking at it as another tool, not a replacement for training or nutrition. I still want to prioritize protein, get back to lifting properly as my back allows, and preserve as much muscle and strength as possible while losing the weight.
For those of you who have been on Wegovy for a while:
What do you wish someone had told you before your very first dose?
Not necessarily the obvious stuff on the medication pamphlet - I mean the practical things you learned through experience that your doctor never mentioned. Things like eating habits, protein, hydration/electrolytes, constipation, nausea, injection timing, workouts, foods that suddenly didn’t agree with you, travelling, alcohol, fatigue, dose increases, plateaus, maintaining muscle, etc.
Basically, if you could go back and give yourself a “Wegovy starter pack” of advice on day one, what would be in it?
I’d really appreciate hearing both the good and the bad. 🙂
