Distortion Noises after long period of no use
Hello there,
I am the proud owner of a Pro-Ject Recordmaster II. It is equipped with an Orthofon OM5E and has worked well for many years. Because of some remodelling in our apartement, I did not use the player for quite some time. Now I wanted to install it in our living room. It is hooked up to a Marantz NR1200 stereo receiver playing with a pair of DALI Opticon 2s.
The connection cable used to connect the receiver and the player is the included cable that came with the project, so it has a ground-wire, which I have installed on both ends of the connection.
When playing records, I get a LOT of distortion and not of the static variety. I know the record is clean. It actually sounds like faulty speakers, but when changing from the Phono stage to the ARC-channel conncted to the TV, the speakers sound just fine. So it has to do with the Player or the connection. I have already cleaned the needle. The needle had the plastic cover on while in storage. The player never fell.
The power supply for the record player is plugged into a power strip, which also supplies the receiver as well as my tv with power. I live in Germany. German outlets supply 230V and are rated to a maximum of 3.000W each. The receiver draws 210W and supplies 75W into each channel. Could it be the ground-wire? I am really lost here, because my record player has never sounded like this. Thank you for the help in advance!
