Should I take my record player apart?

It's a Harman Kardon T30C I picked up at an estate sale. It's got a Shure cartridge and stylus and it'll play a record. The problem I'm having is it dropping one side or the other. If I wiggle the output wire it'll temporarily fix it so I'm guessing something is loose in there. Is it worth it to pop it open to see if I can fix it?

SeeYing record player RPM troubles

So I’ve had a seeying record player for about 5 months now and it’s worked fine before and yesterday randomly it just wasn’t changing the speed to 45 RPM… it would just sit at 33 RPM and wouldn’t change no matter what.

When I try to change the knob to 45 RPM it squeaks a lot more than often. All the other knobs and settings work but the 45 RPM setting doesn’t work even when I start it on 45 RPM or even if I switch it during the song. It just sticks at 33 RPM which doesn’t affect my other vinyls which are 33 rpm while I have one that is 45 RPM. Please help!!! (Photos coming soon)

records play too fast

i recently set my audio technica player (at-p60xbt) back up after a move and all of my records play just a hair too fast. i already tried fixing the drive belt and I reset the turn table after doing so. not really sure what the next step is in troubleshooting and would appreciate some help!!

I’ll include some pictures of what the underneath of my turntable looks like in case it helps. Thanks!

Record player not playing

My boyfriends record player (Core innovation CRTT300) is registering that a record is on it, but not spinning. It’s able to connect to Bluetooth and works fine with that, but the record isn’t spinning- we also did try and use a very old scratched up record on it so idk if that’s the issue. I don’t know anything about record players so if anyone has an idea what it could please help !

Replaced BSR RECORD player but no sound.

I have a vintage electrophonic 8 track record player. I replaced the BSR turntable and was able to connect it ok. But now I'm getting no sound. Any suggestions?

Distortion Noises after long period of no use

Hello there,

I am the proud owner of a Pro-Ject Recordmaster II. It is equipped with an Orthofon OM5E and has worked well for many years. Because of some remodelling in our apartement, I did not use the player for quite some time. Now I wanted to install it in our living room. It is hooked up to a Marantz NR1200 stereo receiver playing with a pair of DALI Opticon 2s.

The connection cable used to connect the receiver and the player is the included cable that came with the project, so it has a ground-wire, which I have installed on both ends of the connection.

When playing records, I get a LOT of distortion and not of the static variety. I know the record is clean. It actually sounds like faulty speakers, but when changing from the Phono stage to the ARC-channel conncted to the TV, the speakers sound just fine. So it has to do with the Player or the connection. I have already cleaned the needle. The needle had the plastic cover on while in storage. The player never fell.

The power supply for the record player is plugged into a power strip, which also supplies the receiver as well as my tv with power. I live in Germany. German outlets supply 230V and are rated to a maximum of 3.000W each. The receiver draws 210W and supplies 75W into each channel. Could it be the ground-wire? I am really lost here, because my record player has never sounded like this. Thank you for the help in advance!

Repair help

I got this player at a yard sale and the only thing qrong with it was the on/off switch was stuck and ive been trying to figure how to take it apart so i can try to get it unstuck but the only available screws are those ones on top wich are just to help balance, on the bottom of it you can see the bottom of six screws but youd have to take off the top and i cant figure it out.

Question about this Zenith Portable Record Player I just bought

Hello,

I just bought this Zenith solid state portable record player off marketplace. I was told that it turns on and plays but the arm starts to drift.

I did plug it in and it does power on and spin at all speeds. Haven’t tried it with a record yet.

Did a bit of research and it sounds like the drifting could be a tracking issue with the arm typically caused by the grease getting gunky.

Question is, how hard of a fix is this? I have some basic electrical and mechanical know-how but still very much a beginner especially with record players.

Also, anyone have a link to a service manual? The sticker on the back says the model is an A507v.

Convert to Modern Player

Hi! I have this beautiful piece. It’s currently functioning with old 45s. We have a historic home and would love to use this regularly. Problem is, we don’t use 45s, and we’ve been told it’d royally mess up our records.

Is it possible to turn this phonograph into a modern record player? We want to keep the integrity of the machine as much as possible—no speakers or bluetooth. Just the sound from the machine itself.

Edit: I know there’s probably a lot of true-ists out here that don’t want to see this beauty adapted. But this is the only way it will get regular use again! Please don’t be too mad!

Headphones aren't working with record player

I plugged in the headphones to the player's 3.5mm jack and no audio comes out. It only works when the volume is turned up, but then it still plays the audio out of the speakers as well.

Skidding stylus on singles

Hi, I still regularly use my dad's old Dynatron Goldring Lenco GL78 but rarely play 45s. Previously it hasn't been an issue when I have put one on.

Now, when I put a single on, the stylus skids across the record and adjusting the counterweight right to the end is not enough to solve it. Do I perhaps need a new needle (and I am bemused by which to choose) of is there anything else I can do? Current stylus is a cheap replacement that is a few years old but my partner chose it and can't remember his reasoning for the selection.

Arm (with stylus removed) pictured.

Thumping/knocking sound?

Does anybody know why my record player is making this sound when it rotates? I’ve taken it apart several times to try and find the issue but can’t seem to figure it out. Might be a simple fix - thanks in advance!

Can this be fixed/ used?

It’s my wife’s. Looks like the black vinyl thing that goes on top was all warped and cracked. There was oil in the corner of the player. I know nothing about this stuff even as an audiophile.

Turntable sound issue

I have this old Sony from 1970 or so. A year or so ago it started doing this loud hum and muffled sound when I play a record, but it's fine for radio. Any suggestions? Could it have anything to do with the stylus? I tend to think not, because sometimes you can jiggle the receiver and it's OK for a bit.

Distorted bass on one chanel - running out of ideas

Hi everyone,
I’m slowly losing my mind over a vinyl playback issue and genuinely don’t know what else to test.

One channel has a muddy, scratchy/distorted bass response, especially during quiet passages, jazz, upright bass and acoustic music. One side sounds rough and “scraping,” while the other channel sounds completely clean.

What confuses me most is that the setup used to work perfectly fine. Then from one day to the next the issue suddenly appeared.

I attached a video mainly so you can see the setup and behavior of the system.
Important: the audio in the video is NOT the raw phone recording. I separately recorded the sound and synced it underneath the video because the phone mic compressed the distortion too much to hear it properly otherwise.

Originally I used a Braun Audio 300. Since then I’ve replaced almost everything trying to isolate the problem:

new stylus
different tracking force / adjustments
different speakers
different cartridge
moved speakers off shelves to eliminate resonance
eventually even replaced the entire system with a Braun Audio 2

And somehow the issue is STILL there.
What’s especially strange is that the distortion always stays on the same side physically in the room, even after swapping speakers/connections.

So what could this possibly still be?
Would seriously appreciate any ideas 🙏

Any one working on a dual 1214?

Or need parts?

Its gonna cost me more than a serviced one to fix it and I can get a deal on shipping to some degree,

Motor works, platter spins, tone arm casing is smashed as seen in last photo, auto return from what i am able to gather works, i do not believe that is the correct cartridge carrying sled for this model

Dm if you want anything from it before I scrap and put to ebay
