Bug or is it supposed to be this way?

So I dropped a broken chest with my belongings on the ground. Then a gnome thief came from another room and stole my chest.

I summoned a frost sphere and killed him.

Now, where he died, a second chest appeared, exactly the same as mine with all the same contents. So now there are 2 chests with my items.

Below is my inventory, and above is the contents of the chest that appeared after the gnome thief was killed hehe
