Need help with ThinkPad X13 Gen 5 Engineering Sample — Intel SST OED Code 10, no mic/audio driver issue
Hi everyone,
I was given a ThinkPad X13 Gen 5 by a relative, and I’m trying to fix the audio driver situation. The machine seems to be an Engineering Sample, so I suspect it may need a very specific driver version instead of the normal public Lenovo/Windows Update drivers.

- 16GB RAM
- Engineering Sample unit
- Dolby Audio sticker

Current issue:
The internal microphone is completely missing. It does not show up in Recording devices, and Windows says “No input device found.”
The speaker device appears, but I think it is only a Windows fallback device, not the proper Lenovo/Realtek/Intel audio stack. It does not seem to be using the “legit” driver path.
In Device Manager, I have this error:
Intel® Smart Sound Technology OED
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
FW did not send FW Ready notification.
What I already tried:
- Lenovo Vantage drivers: failed
- Windows Update drivers: failed
- Lenovo System Update: failed
- Drivers from Lenovo support website: failed
- Tried following generic driver reinstall/debug advice before, and it made things worse — I lost audio, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth and had to reinstall Windows
Extra info:
For Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Windows Update / Lenovo Vantage drivers also do not work properly on this machine. A friend randomly found versions that work:
- BT-23.10.0-64UWD-Win10-Win11
- WiFi-23.10.0-Driver64-Win10-Win11
So I’m guessing this Engineering Sample unit needs very specific driver versions. I’ve seen some Reddit comments saying ES ThinkPads sometimes need the exact factory driver set, otherwise audio, mic, webcam, etc. may not work.
What I’m looking for:
Does anyone have experience with ThinkPad X13 Gen 5 / X13 2-in-1 Gen 5 Engineering Sample units, especially with Intel Smart Sound Technology OED Code 10?
I’m mainly looking for a working factory audio driver package, DriverStore dump, or exact driver versions for this kind of ES unit.
