AITA for not going to my classmate’s 18th birthday party?

I’m currently in high school, and one of my friends invited me to his 18th birthday party. The thing is, I wouldn’t say we’re extremely close. He also doesn’t seem to have many friends, so he tries to talk to me a lot, and I always try my best to be nice and respectful to him.

One day, he invited me to his birthday party, but I already had plans to go to a baseball game with some other friends that same day. I politely told him that I probably wouldn’t be able to make it because of those plans. Then he offered to pay for my baseball ticket, saying money shouldn’t be the reason I don’t go. I explained that it wasn’t really about the money, but he kept asking me over and over again.

Eventually, I told him I would think about it, but that there was still a high chance I wouldn’t go. On the day of the party, I went to the baseball game with my friends like we originally planned.

The next day, he told me he was really hurt and asked if it was really that hard to show up for him just once. Honestly, I was kind of shocked by his reaction, but now I feel like I’m being made out to be the bad guy.

AITA?
