Obviously it needs sanded and re-mudded but I covered the exposed backside of my stairway using paper faced bead (trimmed to fit the odd angles). The offset bead was my best friend!! The biggest piece has few screws in the center because there was literally nothing to grasp on but I did put more screws that’s shown in the pics. I still need to plaster some holes but I think it turned out decent!!
