I want to start playing this game with a keyboard and mouse, it’s obvious the game was designed around that hardware. I play on ps5 with a controller, and I’ve decided that because of the lack of aim assist, and the awful state of menu navigation with a controller. It’s best if I just go through the growing pains of using a keyboard and mouse. Anyone recommend some moderately priced keyboard and mouse set ups? I’m ideally looking for a usb mouse and keyboard. And I’d prefer the mouse had 3-4 side buttons. I’d use a one handed keyboard to save room on my desk, however I’m not sure it would work with dayz, having less buttons could be detrimental in this game specifically.

I’m getting back into DayZ again after a long hiatus. I’ve put in another dozen or so hours. I played a lot in 2024-2025 and put it up for a while to play other games. But with the new update, I’ve been wanting to get back into it. Now, I know that in terms of experience I’m still considered a newbie even with 300 hours. It’s just the nature of DayZ. I still can’t even navigate without pouring over Izurvive on my phone to plan my route when I find out my spawn. I play community servers, on (PS5) with a controller. And they usually spawn you with a tourist map which helps immensely. However, in terms of actual base building and PvP I’m extremely inexperienced. I’ve probably gotten 10 kills over the course of those 300 hours (some of which may or may not be fresh spawns I’ll shamefully admit). I’ve set up a gate with a code lock once, often preferring to make stashes in shelters in the woods. My PvP skills are trash, and my aim is dogshit if I’m being honest. I’m good at other shooters, and when I started playing DayZ i thought I’d get the hang of the gunplay but it’s very hard on controller. Any console or controller players have any tips on getting into and winning more fights? I also struggle with gear fear. In general I enjoy DayZ the nature of the game is just addicting if not tedious. But I think I’d enjoy it more if I could get into and win more fights.
