While we were away, we’ve made significant progress and are now much closer to releasing The Second Sun for beta testing!

In the meantime, we’d like to share a few small announcements with you and answer some of the most frequently asked questions.

1. Why does Ukraine seem to have such a huge advantage at the start of the game?

At first glance, it may seem like Ukraine is heavily overpowered compared to other nations. However, here’s a small spoiler: at the beginning of the game, Ukraine will face a devastating civil war and fracture into numerous smaller states. It will be up to you to reunite these territories and restore the country.

Because of this, playing as Ukraine will be just as challenging and interesting as playing as a less developed nation — its apparent strength comes with a very serious price.

2. Will there be content for the countries of North and South America and Africa?

Absolutely — just not immediately.

When the beta version is released, not every country will have its own content. However, every nation in The Second Sun will eventually receive its own content in future updates.

After the beta release, we plan to prioritize updates focused on the countries of North and South America, so you can expect to see more content for these regions relatively soon.

3. Which countries will receive content during the beta?

The beta release will feature content for:

- Ukraine

- France

- Britain

- Cossack Order Staad

- Nazi China

- Arab Caliphate

- Maya Cities

- Free Territory

- UN Mission in Russia

- White Russia

These nations will form the initial core of playable content in the beta, with many more countries to follow in subsequent updates.

The Beginning

The story of The Second Sun begins on August 3, 1492, when Christopher Columbus set sail in search of a western route to India.

Unlike our history, his expedition never reached America. Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean, Columbus and his entire fleet disappeared during a massive storm. Europe concluded that nothing existed beyond the western horizon except an endless ocean.

Without the wealth of the New World, the great European powers never built the colonial empires we know today. Britain and France instead spent centuries fighting brutal wars across Europe, Africa and Asia, exhausting themselves in conflicts that completely reshaped the course of history.

While Western Europe bled itself dry, Eastern Europe took a very different path. The Cossacks grew into one of the continent's dominant military forces, eventually giving birth to a powerful Ukrainian state.

Everything changed once Napoleon Bonaparte came to power.

Unlike in real history, France won the Battle of Trafalgar. The Royal Navy was destroyed, Britain was economically strangled by a naval blockade, and Napoleon became the unquestioned ruler of continental Europe.

During his eastern campaigns, Napoleon armed hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian Cossacks, promising them land, wealth and shares in France's colonial companies. Together they crushed the Russian Empire.

However, after victory France betrayed its promises. Instead of granting the Cossacks the prosperous colony of New Guinea and valuable company shares, Paris attempted to resettle them onto the barren shores of the Caspian Sea.

The betrayal sparked another war.

The Cossacks eventually secured autonomy, founding the Caspian Sich, while Ukraine itself gradually emerged as an independent great power after the collapse of French control over Eastern Europe.

Centuries later, in 1850, Europe finally reached America.

Instead of primitive tribes, explorers discovered industrial civilizations that had developed in complete isolation for more than three hundred years.

The Maya possessed railroads, factories, modern armies and advanced industry.

America had become impossible to colonize.

Europe had arrived too late.

The Great Ruthenian Hetmanate

Ukraine is one of the central powers of The Second Sun.

After defeating Russia alongside Napoleon, it gradually evolved from a young republic into one of the world's strongest military states. Democratic experiments eventually collapsed when Pavlo Skoropadskyi came to power through elections before abolishing democracy entirely and proclaiming an absolute Hetmanate.

Political opponents were persecuted.

Liberal leader Symon Petliura survived an assassination attempt that left him horribly burned before escaping to France, where he became one of Europe's most famous political exiles.

The anarchists under Nestor Makhno launched a revolution against Skoropadskyi but were defeated after years of civil war.

Following the Great War of 1938–1947, Ukraine emerged stronger than ever.

The country officially became the Great Ruthenian Hetmanate of the Ukrainian Nation, stretching across enormous territories from Eastern Europe to the Caucasus.

Its military is among the strongest in the world, relying on heavy industry, artillery, armored warfare and chemical weapons.

Ukraine also leads the Intermarium, one of the world's two dominant military alliances.

Its members include:

• Grey Klyn
• Crimson Klyn
• Green Klyn
• Libya
• Sudan
• Tuareg State
• Israel

Together, they form one of the most powerful geopolitical blocs on Earth.

The French Republic

France once ruled the world.

Napoleon's victories transformed Paris into the center of the largest empire in history.

However, after his death, maintaining such an enormous empire became impossible.

The new republican government abandoned militarism, dissolved the Eastern European Republic and granted independence to many of its former territories.

Over the following century France transformed into the ideological capital of liberal democracy.

Human rights, pacifism, humanitarian intervention and diplomacy became the foundations of French foreign policy.

Despite publicly rejecting imperialism, France never truly gave up its influence.

Instead of conquering countries directly, Paris surrounded itself with loyal puppet governments.

Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria and White Russia became French client states, while Germany gradually turned into France's closest political satellite.

To counter Ukraine's growing influence, France founded its own alliance, commonly known as the Democratic Bloc.

Its members include:

• Germany
• Switzerland
• Belgium
• Netherlands
• Austria
• Hungary
• Scandinavia
• White Russia

Although officially presented as an alliance of equals, French influence dominates almost every aspect of the bloc.

The British Commune

Without an overseas empire, Britain slowly collapsed after Napoleon's victory.

The destruction of the Royal Navy, economic isolation and repeated financial crises eventually led to a communist revolution.

The monarchy disappeared forever.

Britain reorganized itself into the British Commune, building its economy around heavy industry, centralized planning and military production.

British communists became obsessed with exporting revolution abroad.

They armed communist movements across Eurasia, particularly in Russia and China, hoping to build a global socialist alliance.

Ironically, France itself had originally supported the British left, believing they would become useful democratic allies.

Instead, the new communist government nationalized French property and turned Britain into one of Paris' greatest ideological enemies.

National Socialist China

China experienced perhaps the strangest ideological transformation in the entire world.

Instead of leading the communist revolution, Mao Zedong rejected Marxism entirely.

Believing that communism was too weak to defend China, he embraced National Socialism and built an authoritarian militaristic regime controlling the country's wealthy eastern provinces.

Massive industrialization, racial ideology and total militarization became the pillars of the new state.

Mao dreamed not only of reunifying China, but of dominating all of Asia.

His regime remains one of the world's most dangerous military powers.

Communist China

Western China remained loyal to orthodox communism.

During the civil war it survived only thanks to enormous military aid from the British Commune and Communist Russia.

Together they pushed Mao's armies back and prevented the complete destruction of Chinese communism.

However, after the war the communist alliance collapsed.

Britain, Communist Russia and Communist China all turned against one another over ideology and geopolitical interests.

Today Communist China stands isolated.

Poor, mountainous and constantly preparing for another war against Mao's regime.

The Maya State

When Europeans finally arrived in America, they encountered a civilization unlike anything they had expected.

The Maya had spent centuries developing without foreign interference.

Instead of collapsing before European technology, they captured engineers, copied foreign industry and modernized with astonishing speed.

By 1950 the Maya State had become an industrial monarchy where ancient temples stood beside railroads, factories and anti-aircraft defenses.

Their army uses modern tanks and firearms.

Their engineers rival those of Europe.

Yet despite all their technological achievements, they continue practicing ritual human sacrifice as part of their ancient religion.

The Free Territory of Papua

After losing the Anarchist Revolution, Nestor Makhno refused to surrender.

Together with thousands of followers he hijacked ships and sailed across the oceans searching for a place beyond the reach of every empire.

He found it in Papua New Guinea.

There the anarchists overthrew colonial outposts and created a unique society where Ukrainian revolutionaries lived alongside local tribes.

Traditional Papuan weapons mixed with Maxim machine guns.

River canoes became armored patrol boats.

The result was one of the strangest nations on Earth — part pirate republic, part anarchist commune, part tropical military society.

Their greatest dream remains revenge against the Ukrainian Hetmanate.

White Russia

After decades of chaos on the ruins of the Russian Empire, France backed liberal politicians and White émigrés to create White Russia.

Officially, it is an independent democratic republic.

In reality, it is heavily dependent on French political, economic and military support.

Its enormous natural resources make it strategically invaluable to Paris.

Communist Russia

Communist Russia emerged from a revolution inside the former international administration governing northern Russia.

Inspired by Britain, communist revolutionaries seized the eastern industrial regions and declared a socialist republic.

Since then, Communist Russia has fought an endless civil war against White Russia.

Neither side has managed to reunify the country.

The Caspian Sich

The Caspian Sich was founded by Cossacks who felt betrayed by France after Napoleon's victories.

Originally intended as compensation for broken promises, the barren Caspian frontier slowly transformed into a militarized warrior society.

Centuries of isolation changed their culture, traditions and even language.

Although sharing common ancestry with Ukraine, the Caspian Sich has become a nation of its own.

Its society is heavily inspired by Spartan ideals.

Military service is considered the highest virtue.

The World in 1950

By January 1st, 1950, the world stands on the edge of another catastrophe.

Ukraine leads the powerful Intermarium.

France dominates Europe through the Democratic Bloc.

Britain remains the world's largest communist power.

China is divided between communists and national socialists.

White Russia and Communist Russia continue their endless civil war.

The Maya guard a civilization untouched by European conquest.

The anarchists of Papua dream of revenge.

The old world died centuries ago.

A new one has taken its place.

And its future is now in your hands.

While we're preparing a video that explains the lore of our mod, we'd like to share some of the content we've already translated into English.

We'd also like to clarify a few things.

Our mod is almost finished. We don't have an exact release date yet, but we're aiming for early autumn. As soon as we can announce a specific date, we'll let you know.

Right now we're mainly working on the Ukrainian version of the mod. However, English and Russian localization are among our highest priorities, so the mod will be released in all three languages.

Because of that, the amount of content we can currently share with our English-speaking community is limited by how much we've managed to translate so far.

As a Ukrainian team, it was only natural for us to give Ukraine some extra love. It is one of the most content-rich countries in the mod, but it's far from the only one. Every major nation has its own story, mechanics, and ambitions, and our goal is to make each of them feel like a complete experience.
