Anyone know whether a 2018 Armada Platinum Reserve will ride as smooth as a QX80?

Currently have a 2014 QX80, and with that year, I think there was only 1 trim level. It has the 22” wheels so I’m not certain if it was just that 1 trim level for that year or whether the wheels were upgraded.

Anyhow, I’ve owned it for about 3 weeks, but I’ve also had the aforementioned Armada on reserve with Carvana. It was going theory their reconditioning process and they just reached out this evening that it’s ready for sale and I have a 48hr. window to decide.

The QX80 just rides so nice and smooth. Noticeably a little smoother than the 2023 Armada Platinum that I sold recently.

So I’m wondered did the QX80 has HBMC along with the air ride suspension and whether the Armada has it?

2014 QX80.
When I put the heater on, and hit the recirculate button, the AC button light comes on.

If hit the button to draw in air from the outside, while still having the heat on, the AC button goes off.

It feels like the air may blow hotter, and also more forcefully, when the recirculate button is on AND the AC button is on.

This has me thinking that AC means air CONDITIONING and not air COOLING.

In other words, this is one of the little things that Infiniti does to differentiate themselves from other manufacturers.

Am I right about this?

Today I sold my 2023 Armada Platinum to Carvana. Had $2100 in positive equity, so my appointment was at 2:30 and I was out of there by 3:00 with a check for that amount.

Mindblowingly simple process.

Anyway, I hadn’t driven the Armada since last Monday, which is the day I bought the 2014 QX80 that I’ve already posted about.

Even with the rear end sag of the Infiniti, I can absolutely feel the difference in ride, as I had to drive the Armada to the Carvana location. Driving the Armada today felt like I could feel every bump or rock, even pebble that I drove over. That may be slight hyperbole, but still, even with the rear end sag of the QX80, it still feels like driving on a cloud compared to the Armada.

So I’m surprised that Armada Platinums don’t have air ride. Maybe the older and newer Platinum Reserves do though, I don’t know.

Just bought this and it has the distinctive back sag.

When I start it up, I can hear this buzzing/whirring for about 2-3 minutes, then it shuts off. But the back end doesn’t raise up.

I’ve been reading through all the posts on Infiniti and Nissan, and also on all the parts of the web that I can find relevant info., and most of that time it seems that it’s the compressor that goes bad.

122k on vehicle.

So I need to confirm 1. that the noise I’m hearing for 2-3 minutes on start up is in fact the compressor, and 2. how do I determine whether it’s just the compressor that needs replaced, or the other ancillary components with that system?

Also wondering whether it makes sense to go the route of deleting the air ride system in favor of the Strutmaster or similar product shock system?

Wanted to share a recent move I made - I’ve had an Armada since 2016, a Platinum Reserve, white with two-tone interior.

Kept it until 2020 and traded it in for a black Platinum with black interior, then traded that in for a 2023 white platinum with light interior.

I just didn’t want the payment anymore so was looking at options, but still wanted to stay with an Armada.

Settled on selling the 2023 to Carvana, had $2k positive equity. Bought a 2014 Infiniti QX80 with 122k miles from a private seller. Not in mint condition but pretty pretty pretty good. Some of you will get that reference.

Paid $10,500.

Anyway, not much different looking than my 2023. Very slightly different front end, dashboard is slightly different, has an actual little clock, and other than that, I wouldn’t know I’m not sitting in my 2023 Armada.

One other difference is the ride. Though it’s sitting kinda lower in the back and I’m getting that rectified, will actually be making another post about it after I finish wring this one, it feels different than the 2023 Armada. Feels like riding on a cloud, as opposed to the Armada maybe being a little more stiff.

My point being, I see no appreciable differences between the two models other than the ride and subtle appearances.
