Complicated Insurance Case Advice

So I'm currently in the middle of a complicated poorly handled insurance case as a uni student in exam season. I will try to be as brief as possible:

So I have a VW 2011 Golf DSG (DQ200 Transmission) which was rear ended on a dual carriageway. Driver admitted fault. Turned out we had the same insurer and my insurer called up asking if we would want to claim through his policy due to certain benefits and quicker turnout and I agreed as we had the same insurer.

The car sustained complete cracks and broken rear panel. It was driven home (but had a PRNDS wrench flashing icon). The morning after the accident car wouldn't drive, only reversed. And a pool of oil was found under the frontish end of the car (from gearbox). I scanned the car with my OBD and found 3 errors that coincided with the mileage of when the crash occurred. Made the claim to insurance that day with pictures of leak and damage to rear end.

Car was immediately written off for 2 weeks. Insurance said they would get an Independent Assessor to value the car. Turns out they also did an accident report. They said the gearbox damage was unrelated to the accident based off pictures that I sent. Insurance used this to tell me the car is economical to repair now without telling me that they treated the gearbox as unrelated and it was sent to a body shop. Sat there for weeks before saying they need a main dealer report for the gearbox.

It will be over 80 days since the day of the accident when they car will be brought into the main dealer and this is where I am now. I have left out a lot of info here about poor communication and delays too.

So I'm not sure what to do, I'm thinking of filing a formal complaint. I understand I probably will just have to wait for the main dealer inspection but I have my concerns as to how reliable that will be and think it will be ambiguous and insurance will try to just claim wear and tear.

Sorry for the long paragraphs, situation is a mess, would appreciate any advice.

Rainmeter Virus

Just got a random detection this morning from Defender. It was automatically quarantined. Got a notification to update Rainmeter too. This was the detection - Trojan:Win32/Egairtigado!rfn with 2 affected items:

C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\9N3PWLGG\Rainmeter-4.5.24[1].exe

C:\Users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Rainmeter\Updates\Rainmeter-4.5.24.exe

Any idea what this is for? Haven't updated or downloaded anything.
