A Due Appreciation and a Request

I returned to the game about 10 months ago and since I am almost playing continuously. Through that time I met many kind and helpful players .. though the PS chat and later when I joined this sub-reddit.

Those players .. some of them became sort of acquaintances helped me a lot and taught me very useful tricks.

This post is for them .. to THANK them for their kindness and helpfulness.

While there was of course some trollers and mean people .. that doesn't bother me much .. as I am an old man and I can handle online nastiness well.

Now to the request .. this is mainly to skilled players .. mostly Div. 1 and high Div.2 and mostly p2w. I myself is usually a div.2 player but not at the top.

When you come across a post that you don't agree with .. explain your counter argument in a nice way .. that common comment of "lack of skills" .. or "you need to get better at the game" doesn't help.

Yes of course .. if one can combine a tess cancel with a sombrero and get the timing of shielding well .. they would get away of any pressure .. but that is not reasonable to expect from everyone.

You have to acknowledge that you have an advantage through your meta cards .. even if you don't admit it .. that is a fact and not every new player or even experienced but casual player will be or even should be able to do that.

Have a great update tonight everyone!

These are Myths that You Shouldn't Believe or Try Against a Player 3250+ .. Help is Appreciated (Part 1)

These are the most over-rated advices and recommendations that I tried a lot and almost never worked against teams of +3250 .. at least in my experience:

1. The free player
This basically means that you should always look for a free player to pass to .. recycle the ball until you find one of your forwards running to the goal and free enough to pass to.
Why it is a Myth
With such teams .. usually the players will do most of the work by marking your players and cutting most passing lanes .. you will mostly have one obvious player to pass to and it is going to be too easy for your opponent to spot that player and cut the passing lane to him.

2. Don't focus on the ball carrier .. Block the most dangerous passing lane instead
This means that when you defend .. instead of focusing on the player who has the ball .. kill the passing options
Why it is a myth
Unlike what I mentioned about your team in the previous point .. those high rating teams will have their cards move for them most of the time .. take tiny steps to go far from their marking players and open a passing lane. God forbid they have Cruyf or Gullit and they will move around from supporting the backline .. and then be an additional CF .. no matter their position in the formation.

I do not know a good solution for those challenges and I am posting for finding any useful tip from those who know

This game is won and lost on the availability of passing options and off ball movements that make it easier for the ball carrier to pass and keep the ball possession.

I always found that the opponents that I lose to .. have players who when off the ball .. make those tiny steps to:

- position themselves a little further from a marking player
- have the right body orientation for the next action (run or change direction if they get a pass)
- Start running in the direction of a coming pass
- make a useful press if the ball is lost

You can see the best extreme of that in Gullit and Cruyf (off course I do not expect other players to be at the same level .. but just to make my point clear)

My players almost never do that .. no matter the formation, no matter the playstyle, no matter their stats .. they are like trees

Anything you know that might make them different? Would an advanced manager help?

I was wondering what will I am capable of achieving with a team that is less than my current team. Also, I was feeling that there is structural issues with my current team that I am unable to find solution for (e.g. midfielders and forwards going behind opponent's players .. my back line is always in dissarray .. my players are always under huge pressure ... etc.). I asked, searched and tried so many different formations, cards and playstyles .. yet those issues remained.

I am a f2p player with a team of 3100 rating. I typically finish seasons at the bottom of div. 2 and I am happy with that.

With the new team .. I reached 2400 rating and I kept Damia as the manager. I was able to reach div. 3. after a couple of rounds to get through div. 5 and 4. Played a few games in div. 3 but don't intend to push further during this season. Next season, my goal is div. 2.

Here is some points that I learned and observed through that experience:

  1. It was a joyful experience overall. The game experience in divisions below div. 3 generally makes sense. Players position themselves mostly logically.

  2. I was able to challenge and in most cases beat p2w players that were typically div. 2 & 3 players with the team in the pics. 2400 rating and with Damia as a manager. I only reached 2500 when I added Olmo later in the season. Before that I used Enzo.

  3. Damia is a fantastic manager. Yes, I am not being sarcastic. Getting the option to change to whatever playstyle during the game without affecting the overall rating is blessing.

  4. The formations in the pic is just one of those I used. I also used 3-4-1-2 and 4-2-2-2 in some games. Used possession, qc and lqc.

  5. The basic players are generally very good and beat a lot of the potw and potm players. For example, basic Camavinga and Donnarumma are much better than all the 100+ midfielders I have in my basic account. I got the epic GK from the 1 billion event but kept using Donnarumma as he was much better.

  6. Don't listen to those who tell you to not sprint and to be patient in build up. While I used that sometimes .. I also rushed the game in many cases.

  7. Apparently, most of the issues that we experience is intentionally game-made and a result of DDA and favouring dynamics. Couldn't figure out whether my original team is fucked-up already and no way to fix it or what the reason is exactly .. but most of the challenges I had with it vanished with the fresh team.

  8. Don't listen to those who ask you to show them your team formation or a video of your game to give you some advice. It is a lack of skill to decide when to pass and when to move. It is a lack of skill to decide who to pass to and how to execute a run. But it is not a lack of skill to expect a midfielder to stay in the midfield.

  9. The first few divisions (from 10 to 7) .. I only played AI .. not sure why .. Despite the game charts showing big % of players in those divisions .. I didn't get matched with any actual player!!

As a result of this experience .. I think I will drop my hard-built original team and focus on this new one from next season.
