Everyone is so focused on the Arasaka family drama and whether Saburo or Hanako "won," but the deeper lore reveals that the 2077 incident was actually a massive hostile takeover by entities we barely understand. If you link the dots between the Peralez quest, Alt’s behavior, and the Secret Ending, it’s clear that V wasn't a hero, they were the ultimate biological zero-day exploit.

1. The Peralez Quest was the "Proof of Concept"

The Shadow Group (likely Night Corp and Rogue AIs) proved they could rewrite a high-functioning human brain without the person ever knowing. This wasn't just a side quest; it was the "First Strike" of a new kind of war. While we were worried about Adam Smasher, Mr. Blue Eyes was already skin-walking into the Mayor’s office. The credits message from Peralez confirms it: the brainwashing worked. The city’s leadership is no longer human; it’s a biological operating system for the Net.

2. Alt Cunningham is the Ultimate Opportunist

Alt didn't help V because of "old feelings" for Johnny. She’s a post-human AI who treats data as food. She used V as a physical bypass to reach Mikoshi—a server room she couldn't hack from the outside because of the air-gap. Once she absorbed those thousands of souls, she didn't "save" them; she optimized them into her hivemind. V effectively turned Alt from a powerful ghost into a digital deity capable of tearing down the Blackwall whenever she feels like it.

3. Why "Don't Fear the Reaper" is the Canon Bridge

The Secret Ending is the only one that narratively sets the stage for Project Orion. It humiliates the "Old World" (Arasaka) and leaves a power vacuum that only the AIs can fill. More importantly, it lands V in a direct partnership with Mr. Blue Eyes.

  • The Heist: The Crystal Palace heist isn't for money. V is stealing the last "clean" data the global elite have left.
  • The Timer: The 6-month death sentence is the perfect narrative device to turn V into a "Legendary Ghost"—someone who isn't around to stop the sequel's protagonist, but whose actions (the data they stole) caused the total collapse of the status quo.

4. The Shift: Humanity vs. AI

The original Cyberpunk was about the "Little Man vs. The Corporation." But the sequel is clearly pivoting toward "Biology vs. Code."

  • In 2023, the Net was crashed by a human (Bartmoss).
  • In 2040, the Blackwall was built to keep the "rabid dogs" out.
  • In 2077, V poked a hole in that wall so big that the gods are finally walking among us.

TL;DR: V is "Johnny 2.0," but instead of being used by Militech, they were used by the Rogue AIs. We spent the whole game trying to "save our soul" from a chip, only to hand the entire city’s soul to Alt and Mr. Blue Eyes on a silver platter. The "True Ending" isn't a victory; it's the prologue to the AI War in Project Orion.
