Ich habe heute nach rund zwei Monaten Pause in der Säule ihr mal wieder eine Chance gegeben. Meine bisherigen Erfahrungen waren gemischt, unterm Strich aber gut, ab und zu sogar phänomenal, wenn man mit der entsprechenden Erwartungshaltung im Gegensatz zum Setting einer KN reingeht. Der riesige Querschnitt an Bookings, der das Profil am Ende auszeichnet, hat mich häufig ehrlich positiv überrascht.
Was heute aber wirklich krass war, ist die Entwicklung (?) des Publikums, zumindest das, was ich subjektiv wahrnehme. Ich habe noch nicht erlebt, dass so viel auf dem Floor (lautstark) gelabert wurde, nicht vereinzelt, sondern teils flächendeckend… das schlimmste sind 3-5er Gruppen, die quasi Besprechungen vor den Decks abhalten. Insgesamt fällt im Gegensatz zu den meisten KN auf dass das Publikum überraschend respektlos und unachtsam ist, ich habe noch nie so häufig wie heute Abend Ellenbogen abgekommen?!

Dass die erreichte Zielgruppe in der Säule deutlich jünger und daher vielleicht auch unerfahrener (?) ist, ist mir klar, das macht es in der Sache aber nicht besser. Dass durch die sehr entspannte Tür nahezu allen Einlass gewährt wird, ist Teil des Konzepts und soll sich ja gerade dadurch abheben. Das klappt zwar auch, vermehrt aber zum Leidwesen des Erlebnisses in der Säule. Ich mache erstmal wieder Säulenpause…

Today, after about a two-month break, I gave Säule another chance. My previous experiences had been mixed, but overall good — sometimes even phenomenal, if you go in with the right expectations and not with the mindset any near of a KN setting. In the end, it is the huge cross-section of bookings that defines its profile, and that has honestly surprised me positively quite often.

What was really striking today, though, was the development (?) of the crowd — at least as I subjectively perceived it. I have never experienced so much loud talking on the floor, not just isolated cases, but at times almost across the entire room. The worst are groups of three to five people basically holding meetings right in front of the decks. Overall, compared to most KNs, the crowd feels surprisingly disrespectful and inattentive. I have never been hit by elbows as often as I was tonight?! I get that the target audience Säule reaches is significantly younger and therefore perhaps also less experienced (?), but that does not make it any better. The fact that the very relaxed door policy lets almost everyone in is part of the concept and is precisely what is supposed to make Säule stand out. And that does work — but increasingly at the expense of the experience in Säule.

I’ll be taking another break from Säule for now.
