Allowing cultural appropriation
As a Chinese, it makes me really happy seeing the clothes I love and identify with on the site/app so when looking at cheongsams and qipaos, I obviously got more recommended on my feed right?
However, I also spotted a lot more misleading or listings which were missing information; which, is fine, I've sent a few messages to sellers to let them know of the name of the type of clothing and where it comes from. The first time I did, it was on a qipao which was labeled "Japanese style dress" to which I sent a message to the seller kind of just letting them know the mistake and etc.
Fun fact: the seller did nothing! Left me on read, didn't change the title of the listing and when I made a report of the listing to Vinted, they just replied saying that there's nothing wrong with the listing, just to block the seller and that's it.
A quick search into the history of China and Japan, you can understand why I am incredibly pissed at the lack of action of not even Vinted pushing for the seller to make the change of wording in the listing title.
Most styles of clothes come with history and culture and the cheongsam and qipao are no different. To see Vinted blatantly brush off this matter makes me worried for those who continuously act this way again and again (I saw one account which was dropshipping from taobao and raising the price of the clothes by even like 4 to 5 times the original amount) and get away with it.
I can't do anything myself but thought I'd vent here about it
