Is there another option than an RMA?
Hi, I have a CROSSHAIR 18 HX AI gaming laptop, I’ve had it for less than a year, about a month ago Fan 2 started to either work at half capacity or not spin at all. It would fail fan test. But on some days it would start to spin but only at like 40-60% of the RPMs of Fan 1, and how long it ran like that was highly variable and it might sputter out slowly and sound loud or keeping working handicapped.
I’m reading about bad experiences with MSI RMA and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to send in or to void the warranty and have a third party shop take a look at it?
MSI support was already really difficult to navigate with and they kept saying “the second fan will not turn unless the GPU is being used and it reaches 66C. Fan 1 (CPU Fan) will always run." But I have had it either on Cooler Boost or a custom fan curve where both are running constantly. Unless I have something wrong there, Fan 2 should still be passing the Fan Test but it’s failing. They obviously switched support persons and then told me I could open an RMA. I’ve tried to clean it to see if it was just something stuck or whatever but when I was spinning the fan with my finger after taking the cover and stuff off it didn’t move as smooth as fan 1. Any advice?
