I’m celiac, and this week we were traveling. Of course a bunch of stuff goes wrong, and at one point my husband was heard to say: I think if I wanted to torture but not immediately kill someone, I would give them celiac. I felt seen 😭
I am traveling out of state and having my first significant outbreak of the celiac rash. (I’ve been diagnosed celiac for a year.) I went to an urgent care, but they would only give me a steroid but not Dapsone. I called a local dermatologist, but they said they don’t treat celiac rash and suggested I go to an allergist. The gastro who diagnosed me definitely doesn’t know anything about celiac complications. I left a message with my GP, but I’m worried they won’t be comfortable diagnosing me virtually and prescribing something they’re not familiar with. So what doctor will actually treat this??? It itches so badly.
I really liked these vanilla wafers - we just got them in at our local Walmart. So, I melted some gf bittersweet chocolate chips and and made my own Milano sandwich cookies. And they’re so good - a really great copycat!
We pitched some friends on meeting us for lunch at a place that's gf safe. They counter-pitched a different restaurant for its kid-friendliness. We went, and I knew I should just stick with a drink, since it was not well-reviewed for celiacs. But we hadn't seen these friends in a while, and I don't want it to be awkward (yes, they know I'm celiac), so I ate the safest thing I could find. Of course, now I feel awful and assume I was glutened. I've got a few hours before my bigger symptoms usually kick in. But mostly I just feel dumb. Why couldn't I be brave and just say - that's okay, I'll stick with a drink and eat later? If adult friends cannot handle that, should I be chasing their friendship?
Anyway, I wanted to tell folks who would understand. I swear to God that next time I am going to nurse my drink and have fun and screw anyone who can't handle that!
