As an amateur should I switch from the now+ gen 1 to the flip?

My main question is if will be easier to manage the manual exposure options?
I take some where the camera says it’s dark but the subjects obviously come out overexposed so I’m wondering if the newer models are more reliable or just about the same.

I should add besides taking pictures of others I want to do some exploration on self portraits. Plus my dog is black so very hard to photograph.

Took one straight from the fridge (I know). I have not used the camera for a year, is this from the fridge or something else?
