All this cry for having exclusive vanity gear handed over for almost free got me thinking.
Like how many games per season are you actually playing? Have you ever went trough the grind it takes to achieve something hard? Some people should, instead of crying for handed out free rewards spend that time to actually once go trough the grind to achieve hard rewards, maybe that would make you respect the work and effort of having those mounts/tabards/enchants take.
Point of reward system is to have ladder of rewards, so there is always next step you can try and get. Current reward system is totally rigged: Currently elite is top 4%, which is miles below hardest reward, which is rank 1 gladiator. We are at start of season and by end of season elite is something pretty much anyone with slightest effort can achieve. If everyone can have some reward, sooner or later it will lose its value and then there is nothing to achieve from arena. Jump from top 50% to top 0,1% is not good reward structure.
Exclusivity is only real value these vanity items have and noone would want them if they werent exclusive. You can get same model in different color from that seasons mythic raid, which is something anyone with hands and keyboard can do, yet noone wants them. Its not the look that makes these rewards valuable, its the prestige that is behind of countless of hours of improving yourself. Noone would go trough the grind to win olympic medal, if you could buy it for 5e from costco / lidle.
Go ahead and call me elitist gatekeeper or whatever personal attack that is coming, but I dont think I am. I just want to have goal and reward for achieving that goal. I am playing one season per expansion and last expansion it took me 4k solo shuffle rounds to get legend, like 3,9k to get elite. I am not someone that just logs in and is born with magical ability to just log in and have these rewards, it takes lots of work and effort and that is the thing I am addicted to in wow. I had to start improving myself from around 1,7k rating, but instead of crying for inflation / lower rating requirements, i went and actually learned the game and that is something everyone with high rating has done at some point. The feeling you get when you finally hit that goal is pure ecstasy and that is what makes me come back. If gladiator / legend / 2.2k / whatever is not something you can invest enough time, then you should set up your goal lower and be happy with top 10% / top 20% or whatever reward you set for urself. If you cant invest time and effort to hardest rewards in game and still want them to handed out for you, you are just really entitled prick that doesnt value anything but your own ego.
Having free rewards for everyone may be fun for 10minutes or one season, but in the end it kills reward system for everyone, including yourself. That title / mount / tabard is totally pointless if everyone has it.
