Hi everyone, I recently chose Miami Herbert over USC Marshal, but with the summer approaching, I’m second guessing if I made the right call. On paper, USC is a t25 school, but looking at the current situation there, I'm starting to think Miami might be the more stable choice?
Recent news from USC is pretty alarming
Budget Crisis: The university has been hit with a $251 million operating deficit leading to school wide budget cuts of 5–10% hiring freezes, and layoffs.
Faculty Revolt at Marshall: Just last month (April 2026), Marshall faculty signed a letter citing a “downward trajectory” for the school. They are specifically fighting proposed cuts to the PhD program that could tank the school's academic reputation.
Political Funding: There is also a huge threat to their state funding. Governor Newsom has threatened to pull billions in state funds (including CalGrants) if USC complies with certain federal demands from the Trump administration.
Miami Herbert feels like it’s on an upward swing with strong career relevance, whereas Marshall seems to be in firefighting mode with revenue shortfalls in their MBA programs. Also I think that the promixkty to Brickell would prove very useful.
What do you guys think? Did I make a mistake? Is the prestige of Marshall worth the current instability, or is UMiami the better option right now given the mess in LA
