Ok so I'm a teacher working on conspiracy theories with my students and I remember, a long long time ago, seeing a scene from X files where and old man (cigarette smoking man?) explains to Mulder that the government actually engineers conspiracy theories to drown people in fake information. I think it was in black and white but you know those old 280p grainy videos, might just have been the quality.

Is there an expert here that remembers this, could find the reference for me (a link would be golden but I've been looking for a while so I'm not hopeful)? The truth is out there, I know it...

EDIT: haven't found it yet but have some references to dig through now, however I just wanted to say a big big THANKS there's some very interesting stuff in there you are a great community.

EDIT 2: After reading all your comments and checking out everything you advised, I think this is the winner: https://youtu.be/z-EfEaFWh3w?is=ud9XkW5W_AAAak3u The content was not exactly what I remembered but it was just a video I came across years ago and both the content and aesthetic have that unnerving feel I remember. I realise the indications were vague and somewhat inaccurate so I thank you again for your collective help. If it's any consolation, X files is my next watch, the last time being on TV as a child.
