I am a bit confused by Worksafe regs here: https://www.worksafe.govt.nz/managing-health-and-safety/consumers/safe-living-with-electricity/getting-electrical-work-done/doing-your-own-electrical-work/
It states I can
>Relocate existing switches, socket outlets, and lighting outlets that are supplied with electricity by tough plastic- sheathed cables.
then goes on to say
>Install, extend, and alter sub-circuits (including sub-mains), provided that you: must get the finished work tested and connected by a licensed electrical inspector who will verify the safety of the completed work before connecting it. It is advisable to have consulted the inspector prior to starting any installation, extension, or alterations.
I am trying to change a batten light holder to a batten LED light, and the existing wiring is about a metre short. The earth wire is also live because the idiots did it like that pre-2000 regulations.
I am planning to install a strip connector where the line currently terminates to the batten holder (https://tradedepot.co.nz/12-way-32a-strip-connector-transparent/), put the earth <> active in its own connector of-course, protect the whole termination it even though its in the joists with a conduit shallow (https://tradedepot.co.nz/electrical-three-way-shallow-25mm/), then run 1mm TPS about a metre (https://tradedepot.co.nz/electrical-tps-cable-1mm-x-20m-white/) where I would install the new light fitting. The MCB is rated at 10A so I realise 1.5mm is ideal. I am well aware that Trade Depot is crap for everything, but these are AS/NZ rated and I doubt there's much to fail for these fittings.
So do I need an electrician for this work? I should note that I have done plenty of allowed electrical work before, I own the home, and I have a degree in electrical engineering.
