Hi, I’m looking for some help and opinions.
For context, I don’t drink or smoke, and I have very good oral hygiene.
About 10 days ago I started having severe, unbearable pain in my lower central incisors. After 5 days of pain, I went to a dentist who performed a cleaning and scaling because there was tartar buildup caused by my fixed retainer.
She also noticed that the retainer was poorly positioned and putting extra pressure on those teeth, so she removed and repositioned it. On the X-ray (I’ll attach an image), she observed root resorption. Overall, her findings were:
- Gingival recession
- Periodontal pocket
- Root resorption
She prescribed an anti-inflammatory and Periogard (chlorhexidine).
I then saw two 3 (THREE!!) dentists, and all of them agreed with the root resorption and gingival recession and they recommended a gum graft, but one said that I shouldn’t have never used the anti-inflammatory. They all also said that I have a very thin gingival biotype and a short labial frenum that may be causing traction in that area.
What’s really concerning to me, and my main question, is that all of them said they’ve never seen someone experiencing the kind of pain I’m having with this condition. My pain is spontaneous, throbbing, and very sensitive. They all said that it should only be very sensitive when i eat/drink foods/drinks hot/cold/acid
Because of the pain in this tooth, my bruxism has also worsened to an awake bruxism, causing even more pain, stress and discomfort
7 days into the pain I took ketorolac without a prescription (yes I know that wasn’t the right thing to do), but even that didn’t relieve the pain.
So my questions are:
- Does this diagnosis sound correct?
- Could it be something else?
- What are the chances of healing without a gum graft?
- How long should this type of pain take to go away?
Any insight would be really appreciated. Thank you. Sorry for the long post
