I have been doing some pretty heavy advocacy work within my home state of Michigan for a ban on kratom. I shared the story with Detroit News of my years long addiction to feel free and eventually 7oh (which greatly endangered my health and eventually led to being involuntarily committed to 4 days in a psychiatric hospital/detox program). The response has been really overwhelming… many people were still completely unaware of kratom. I’ve since been invited to speak on state-wide podcasts, radio and tv programs. The story is now being picked up by national media outlets… anyways this is all to say that I sort of accidentally ended up with a platform here and I have shared my story but moving toward it would help me so much to be able to draw on the truth of others’ experiences with kratom addiction. I know not everybody will favor the idea of a full ban and that’s ok- I’m not here to debate that and I used to not think about it the way I do now. The reason I am doing this work now is because there is sadly a growing epidemic among teens and young adults in this state and I am afraid for them. And I also know how isolating and scary it is to face an addiction to something so widely unknown so any awareness we bring to this issue will help others avoid a type of suffering we all know too well. Anyways, thank you to anyone who has read this far! If anyone in this community would like to help me fight for a ban by sharing their own experiences, I would be deeply grateful. I’m also trying to find screenshots anyone may have of some of the worst and most misleading feel free or kratom ads you’ve ever seen. Thank you for your time!

PS- I visited this subreddit so many times
throughout my addiction and I’m so grateful to be here 7+ months sober. 🥹 I’m rooting for everyone who is struggling to get free. 🙏
