As a general rule of thumb, how long would one have to save in order to retire based on saving a % of their income?

All things being equal, if you wanted to have the same salary when you retire in perpetuity what is everyone's thoughts on this ratio?

Example: save/invest 10-15% of your salary for 20 years and you can retire comfortably.
