Am I getting over my anaphylactic dairy allergy?
For some background information, I am a 21M , who has lived my whole life with a anaphylactic dairy allergy. Which makes me allergic to all dairy products, especially the milk proteins (whey and casein). Lactose intolerance on the other hand, is when a person has an intolerance to the lactose (sugar) in milk. Recently through the years, my allergy has gone from the typical anaphylactic allergic reaction symptoms (hives, throat swelling, needing an EpiPen) to just throwing up whenever I have an allergic reaction. But now it has been reduced to the point where I can accidentally consume a tiny sip of milk and just feel sick in the back of my throat and stomach but can minimize the vomit effects.
I know that it might seem delusional to think that I’m getting over my lifelong allergy, but I’m wondering if this is the case, as recently in the past couple months, I have been eating food with Ghee in it and not having a single allergic reaction. And now it has gone to the point where when food is listed with “milk ingredients” or “contains milk” but doesn’t specify where, I will do a test where I eat the tiniest piece to see if I react and then gradually eat a bigger piece, to the point where I can consume the product and I’m having no reaction. I have found that I can mainly eat foods that are baked with milk without reacting but I have not tried raw milk products (cup of milk, cheese, yogurt). It just feels like I’m in some sort of limbo for allergies like my allergy does not appear to be anaphylactic anymore, but also I know that it’s not just a dairy intolerance. So I’m wondering, what is this allergy I have?
I’m also wondering if it’s worth getting allergy tested, but I don’t know if it’s common or not for someone to be outgrowing their allergy by 21 years of life, but hopefully I am.
If anyone has any advice I will gladly take it.
