What could have caused a reaction?

My husband has celiacs, dairy allergy, and soy allergy and had a very mild reaction to this chicken broth. We’re unsure what could have caused this besides the chicken flavor. Any ideas what’s in it or if something else could’ve caused it?

did Walmart change their meatball ingredients?

posting hoping someone might have some info. my boyfriend is allergic to dairy/eggs/nuts/shellfish and we’re always super careful when checking ingredients on the food we buy. we bought these great value home style meatballs as they say they only contain wheat and soy, but when we looked on walmarts website it says they contain milk. but i can’t find any information about walmart changing the ingredients and i keep finding images of the meatballs with and without milk. are these actually milk free and safe to eat?

DAE get a burning tongue sensation on their tongue despite not having burnt it after eating something?

These days besides mouth itchiness I’ve also been getting the sensation of having burnt my tongue despite not having done so after eating food…unsure if it’s allergy related so I thought I’d ask around…

Just ate animal crackers a food I thought to not be triggering and all of a sudden I’m done with my last bite and my tongue feels like I just drank too hot water or like I bit into pineapple and I drink water and I can feel that sort of numb/burnt sensation on the tip of my tongue…

How do allergy parents deal with family who think you're "overprotective"?

Curious to hear from parents managing severe food allergies the label-checking, cross-contamination questions, declining outside food and getting called "paranoid" or "dramatic" for it by relatives who don't get that a trace amount can trigger a real medical emergency.

If you've dealt with comments like "a tiny bite won't hurt," how do you set boundaries without it turning into a full family blowup? Where's the line between holding firm and just avoiding the fight?

Milk intolerance reversed?

I have been lactose intolerant my whole life.
Cut to the age of 27 years, when I suffered with typhoid and I have been able to consume milk ever since!
Anyone else had such incidents..?

Those on Xolair- looking for insight

I’m highly allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and have been for 11 years. I have so much anxiety around food and am looking to lessen the chance of reaction and gain some peace but am nervous about a lifelong shot.

So.. those on Xolair how is it? Has it helped and what have your side effects been?

First EpiPen Use/Small Rant about ER Dr.

I’ve had a crustacean allergy since I was a teenager. It started as a small lump in my throat and each accidental exposure has been a little more noticeable. Skin testing later confirmed shrimp and lobster, and my allergist always warned me that one day my throat could fully close. Well, this weekend it did.

We ordered dinner from a restaurant we’ve eaten at many times. I had a couple bites of my toddler’s chicken katsu while setting the table. My best guess is it was fried in the same oil as the restaurant’s tempura shrimp. About 15 minutes later, I tried to eat some tuna and felt like I was gagging. I started to vomit but nothing got past, then to the sink for water and it just hit a wall and I realized what was happening. Thankfully my EpiPen was nearby, but by the time I got to it I was gasping, barely getting any air, and could feel myself losing consciousness. I’d trained with a pen that had one cap and this one had two and I didn’t have the wherewithal to realize. I apparently jammed it into my leg twice with the second cap still on before I was finally able to inject it (only know this from my three bruises, only one with a needle mark). I started coming around quickly, and by the time EMS arrived I was breathing normally.

Then comes the part that’s still irritating me. I don’t get hives or a rash with my reactions, and the first ER doctor seemed almost doubtful that it had been that severe because there was no rash. He also commented that Epi doesn’t normally work “immediately.” It really irked me because there was no doubt to me what happened and the Epi made it near-immediately better. My throat still had the familiar raw/battered feeling I get after a reaction, with some redness and broken blood vessels, but because he couldn’t see the swelling, his whole attitude felt like, “I guess I’ll take your word for it.” Like I’d choose Epi + an ambulance ride to the ER instead of a nice meal with my family on the weekend!?

Anyway, I’m still processing the fact that my allergy has apparently escalated to this level, and still annoyed about that doctor. Thanks for reading.

Red ring around mouth?

Does anyone else get a red ring around your mouth after eating? I just had Subway. My main allergies are Sesame, Peanuts, and Tree nuts. In reality I have many, many more (food pollen syndrome as well) these are just the main ones I avoid. This is what my mouth usually looks like after. I feel fine, though, for the most part.

What do you eat with a billion food allergies?

When I was 6 i was only allergic to grass, but now (15) I have so many food allergies. (peanuts, chocolate, multigrain, fish, shrimp, and so much more that I forget) . When I got the test they were mild and i didn't really feel them except for the peanut one. But now i feel sick with all the other ones too. I don't know what to eat 😭. Basically my whole diet was noodles and fish (I was pescatarian). Any allergy friendly food advice is accepted. I have never had anaphylaxis before but, I also just got all these new allergies, so my parents got me an epipen just in case

Parents of babies/toddlers with food allergies, how do you do it?

My toddler is moderately allergic to milk/dairy and peanut and mildly allergic to soy and other nuts.

None are anaphylactic but bad enough that he can’t eat them. Milk and peanut he gets swollen eyes and hives over his whole body and scratches his neck and ears till they bleed, with the soy and other nuts he gets mouth neck and chest hives and itching but no swelling, and of course he cries all night from a tummy ache after. He has done well with the first step of the milk ladder, the second step is a mild reaction and anything above that is moderate.

We are working with an allergy specialist and I’m not looking for medical advice, but I’m just exhausted trying to feed him. We are a milk loving family, most things I make have it in some way: milk, cheese, butter. Soy is in so many things as well. He is 1 year old, and he’s fallen down from 85th to 50th percentile in weight, meanwhile he’s 95th for height.

He refuses everything but fruit pouches. We try to get him to eat the meat/veg ones and give him chicken nuggets, fries, steak, eggs, etc. He won’t eat most things. Just fruit, fruit pouches, and broccoli. He will drink only apple juice or water, won’t have oat milk or formula, but breastfeeds at night and before a nap.

I’m kind of at my wits end because I’m trying to make him an allergy free version of our dinner every night just for him to throw it on the floor. His doctors said it’s normal for his age especially for a kid who’s had so many reactions it can be traumatizing and turn them off of food, but I feel like I’m failing him because he’s so skinny.

I’m sure there’s no magic fix-all answer, but I’d love some advice from anyone who’s maybe gone through the same thing.

Egg and wheat allergy friendly countries?

I got diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis (wheat/gluten as the trigger) and a more serious instant anaphylactic egg allergy in 2022.

Before then, i had only just begun to explore other countries outside the uk, having never done so ss a child. I remember studying in Quebec and loved it so much.

So far since my allergies ive been to Portugal and Spain. Being able to eat a GF macdonalds burger in Spain was the best thing ever.

I want to see more countries and I was wondering if anyone with an egg or wheat allery (or both if thats likely) had an input or country recs?

Places I really want to see:

- Italy

- Vancouver

- Australia

- North West USA (Like Oregon)

- Norway

Has anyone had to stop taking Xolair treatment? Did your allergic reactions rebound? Financial aid?

Did any allergic reactions get worse than how they were before, did it simply go back to how it was before, or was it better than before?

Are there any foundations or programs to help afford the shots to keep getting treatment?

Weirdness? (Vent)

okay, I've been allergic to apples since I was little. I've started with only the peal and then gotten more severe over the past years.

the weird thing is that my apple allergy started the same way my brother's did, starting with only the peal and little tingles, my brother is younger than me and I'm seeing exactly how my allergy started in him. I've asked a few websites and for some reason if you're allergic to certain pollen it can make LTP allergies more common.

neither of us are allergic to pollen, heck, I'm not allergic to Poison Ivy, i'm over here pulling it out of the ground with my bare hands while my friends are avoiding it like the plague. and I'm so confused on how me and my brother BOTH ended up with the same allergy, at the same age, with the same symptoms (i'm hoping here he doesn't end up as severe as me)

I don't know, I'm just venting here

Egg Ladder Step 3 Ideas

My daughter is 2 years old. She was diagnosed with an egg allergy at 6 months old. Started to outgrow it around 18 months and we’ve been moving up the egg ladder.

We’ve been stuck on step 3 for a couple months because she refuses to eat egg. I have successfully given her a little bit of scrambled egg by mashing it into the cream cheese on her bagel (no reaction, yay), but she won’t eat egg on its own. I’ve presented it in various ways like scrambled, fried, hard boiled, etc but she won’t try it.

Any recipes or advice on how I can get her to eat more egg for step 3?

Eating out with an egg allergy is simply troublesome, isn’t it?

I'm here for venting out.

I have an egg allergy over a year now. I barely ate outside/ at a restaurant in the meantime.

Quick note: for the last two weeks, my allergy is causing intense itching and I have constant crawling sensation just because I overlooked may contains in the -_- baking powder and semolina. So I am utterly shocked and disappointed as to why even a baking powder has an egg contamination. Because thinking about what goes into a food is already a hassle but may contains!!! how am I supposed to know the brands they use.

Then, yesterday, My friend suddenly asked me to eat outside at a Turkish Bbq place. I said okay, we went there. The meats were marinated, so my brain went blank for a second and I was doing all the calculations in my head. I immediately eliminated the meatballs because the recipe traditionally have eggs. And additionally they may have used the pre-packaged dry powder and there is only one brand and I remember reading the may contain egg warning on the package months ago. I also avoided sucuks. Then we went to chicken section, again, I have to go through how my mom or I made it at home in my head and finally took the risk and picked it up. Then there goes mezes and accompaniments. I just let my friend pick what she liked because I had enough trouble. When we were eating, I was so exhausted by the number of things I refused, I couldn't say no to the bread, which I should have definitely avoided in the first place without question, right? Right after we left the restaurant, I got a headache and vomit sensation which is also what I get when I have a contact with may contain egg.

So everytime I eat out, the experience is going to be very similar to this, I assume. Am I wrong? What do you think?

Reminder to check your epi-pen expiration dates

Currently having an allergic reaction of some kind, itchy mouth, took two antihistamines and have my epi-pens on hand for if symptoms change or progress.

Also just noticed that both of my epi’s expired 8 MONTHS ago, they’re cheap and affordable in my country I really have no excuse for this other than being an idiot and losing track of things 😭
I’m aware that they’re still likely fine so I will be using them if I need to, but holy this is your reminder to also make sure that yours are actually in date

Did anyone’s baby have a wheat allergy or sensitivity?

She kept throwing up so I cut dairy and soy. Didn’t do anything. I cut wheat and it got dramatically better - not perfect but went from twice a day throwing up to every 3ish days. I decided to phase it back in because I did all this research and it says wheat allergies or gluten allergies are super rare. I thought maybe she’s just growing out of it. But then Friday night was my first time eating it again and she threw up BIG vomits (almost 4oz - we have barf bags with measurements) on Saturday, Sunday, and today. So it seems like that’s the culprit. Anyone else have this intolerance with their baby? She’s 3.5 months
