So I got myself a 125

XSR125 due next week, CBT done, insurance done and kit ready, can't wait.

I'm going to walk it down into the garden office for overnight storage, will lock it up obviously and block it in - what do you recommend I get a minimum for when out and about. A couple of litelok and disk alarm - whats the collective thoughts on this before I go over the top. I'll be in the local openair car park for a while yet I don't want to look too foolish from day one 🤣 thanks all.

Hi all,

Need a bit of help and maybe some moral support!

I've fancied having a go at riding for a while now. I've been a car driver forever, I'm a keen cyclist, and I've had a bit of twist.& go moped experience over the years. I've got my CBT booked next week, so I'm planning to pick up some gear this week and finally go for it.

My CBT is booked on an automatic scooter, but I'm really interested in getting a XSR125 afterwards. Am I making a mistake doing the CBT on an auto? Should I switch to a geared bike instead? I've had a few lessons on a geared bike before and seemed to get on with it fine. I'd like to get a bike fairly quickly to make the most of the London summer. I love the café racer/naked bike style and can see myself moving onto something like a Triumph Speed 400 etc once I've done the full license next year.

This isn't for commuting, it's more about having some fun, a bit of me time, getting out on the road, maybe visiting a few bike meets and trying something completely different.

One thing I'm worried about is collecting my first bike. How does everyone do it when they're not yet confident? Part of me thinks getting it delivered and practising in my own time, but I'm sure loads of people have been through the same thing. The wife isn't saying much about the whole idea, so I'm treading carefully there! The kids are all grown up now, so it feels like the right time to do it.

Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated, whether that's bikes, jackets, boots or any essential gear. I'm planning to pop into my local bike shop this week and get kitted out.

Really excited to start this journey, a bit nervous too. I drive an EV after years of owning V6s, V8s, V12, and somehow this feels scary!

And yes... this is my first ever Reddit post after lurking for a while.🤣

Thanks all.
