Birthday Gift Ideas for Comic Collector & Artist Husband

Hi all— hoping you can help a lady out here. My husband’s bday is in a few weeks, and he’s an avid comic book and graphic novel collector. He’s also an artist himself. He’s really hard to buy for because he usually just buys what he wants. I know Geof Darrow is a favorite of his. So is Greg Capullo… Wildcats is a top comic. He loves the Matrix. He has a lot of “artist’s editions” books. If anyone has any cool, obscure suggestions of comics, novels, or prints that would be helpful or at least put me in a certain direction. If there are any fellow artists who have suggestions are art supplies must haves, then I’d appreciate that as well. He does a lot of ink and pencil work. He’s going to be set up at Heroes Con this year, so I thought maybe some travel stuff might be an idea too. Any suggestions are much appreciated!

Seller Question — Old church building a buyer deterrent?

Hello! My husband and I are planning on selling our property this year. We live in a former parsonage. My husband’s grandfather had bought this property years ago. With the purchase of the home came an old church building next door. Literally. It’s probably 20-25 feet from our home. He gave this property to my husband who remodeled it before we moved it upon marrying. The church wasn’t in great shape when his grandfather purchased the property, and it’s still in poor condition. It needs a new roof. Windows need repair. The back part of it has falling ceiling tiles. We mainly use the front part of it (the sanctuary) as storage for the lawnmower and tools.

We recently had a realtor out to provide a market analysis on our home. She said she would speak with an appraiser to get their opinion on the church. The realtor reached out to me this week and asked if we’d be willing to section off that lot of the property and sell it separate from the home because the appraiser agrees with her that it could deter certain buyers. I asked if it would be better to demo it which she said that would cost us money and could upset the town (small town), and this would be easier essentially.

We do not plan on listing our home for a crazy price and compared to homes in our area, it would most likely be considered a bargain. With that being said, my husband thinks we should be able to list the home at the price and “throw the church in for free.” I could see someone not wanting to have to deal with the building but also maybe someone not caring and use it as a storage building too. I’m afraid selling the church separately would also deter potential buyers… I could see someone not wanting to live right next door to the church.

Just curious to hear what other REAs might think in this situation.

Thank you!
