I didn’t expect small details to matter this much in men’s outfits

Lately I’ve been trying to refine my wardrobe a bit instead of just rotating the same basics, and I’ve noticed something I didn’t really pay attention to before.

On the surface, a lot of menswear pieces look pretty similar, especially hoodies, tees, and jackets. Fit, colour, and styling usually get most of the attention. But when I started wearing different pieces more regularly, I began noticing how much the smaller construction details actually change the overall feel.

Things like how a hoodie holds its shape after a few wears, how a jacket drapes when it’s slightly broken in, or how fabric texture changes the way an outfit reads in real life vs mirror or photos.

Some pieces that looked average at first ended up becoming my favourites simply because they aged well and kept their structure. Others that looked great initially slowly started feeling less interesting once they lost that “clean” shape.

Now I find myself paying way more attention to fabric weight, stitching, and how something is likely to behave over time instead of just how it looks on day one.

Curious if anyone else here has shifted focus from first impressions to long-term wear when building outfits.
