BMW E91 320d N47 – Best way to disable EGR/AGR?

Hey guys,

I have a BMW E91 320d with the N47 engine and I’m thinking about disabling the EGR/AGR system because I’ve heard it can cause carbon buildup and other issues over time.

What’s the best way to do it properly?
Do I need just coding/software, or also a physical delete kit/block-off plate?
Any downsides or things I should watch out for?

Would appreciate any advice or experiences from people who already did it.

E91 EGR cleaned but error returns immediately – cooler flap seized?

Hi everyone,

today I removed and cleaned the EGR valve on my BMW E91. The removal process was honestly way harder than every YouTube tutorial made it look.

While taking everything apart, I noticed that the flap inside the EGR cooler looks weird / stuck (see pictures). Even after spraying it with brake cleaner, the flap would not move at all.

Unfortunately, cleaning the EGR valve itself didn’t solve anything either. After a short test drive, the same fault code came back immediately:

004873 – Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooling, Plausibility

Now I’m wondering:
- Is the flap inside the EGR cooler supposed to move freely?
- Could the EGR cooler itself be defective or clogged?
- Has anyone had this exact fault before?
- Is replacing the EGR cooler the next logical step?

The car is an E91 diesel (N47).

Any advice would be appreciated!
