Hi, I’m a young student in mechanic, I just got myself a Bmw 328xi 2011 for a new daily since I’ve heard the N52 is a great engine. I’m jumping from a Kia spectra 5 2009 to this beauty I have now. I absolutely love it and I’m proud of it since it’s my first real “cool” car.
I’ve been going through though times for my mental health these last few months and I need something to work and put my attention on in hope to feel better. What could I add on it? I’ve been thinking about “converting” it to a 330xi by adding the three stage intake manifold. Also making it bi-color, black and white would be really clean. I would add a black m-style spoiler, black mags and black wrap for the headlights and backlights. I don’t know what to do for the exhaust tho, I want something that sounds good, but not too loud. What do you think?Anything else I could add? I’m open to every suggestions. Thanks!
What’s up guys, I bought my E90 last year and I’ve really enjoyed the car — I love the stability, comfort, and overall design. But at the same time, it’s been giving me a lot of problems.
The AC doesn’t work, the car smokes, burns oil (Liqui Moly), and even after recently replacing the valve cover kit, valve stem seals, water pump, and power steering system, more issues keep showing up. The alternator failed too, I repaired it, scanned the car, and now I have a ton of fault codes with barely any information online about them.
The most frustrating part is that my engine is an N46 4-cylinder. Almost everything online is about the N52 or N55, so finding information is really difficult. Even buying parts is a headache because most websites don’t list my engine/model, so I have to search everything by part number using REALOEM.
I seriously need help or I’m going to end up selling it for $3k.
I'm looking to take my 2013 e92 n55 on track and looking to hear your experiences. I've heard lot's about oil starvation issues and want to know more.
How did you overcome this issue? I've contacted a few companies and the only solutions i've found up to now for the n55 is in the F chassis unfortunately.
i recently bought an E91 Lci with m sport suspension.
but my right shock absorber in the rear is leaking. i want to buy a new one but when i search for replacements, the websites only display normal shock absorbers for normal e91 Lci. so i am searching for the part number for the M one.
help with the part number is really apreciated :)
Hi, I have a 2006 BMW E90 318i.
Under the passenger seat (photo 1,2), the wiring looks original with the yellow airbag/seat connector plugging into the seat harness.
But under the driver seat (photo 3), the previous owner seems to have cut or bypassed the original yellow connector. The wires are taped together and it looks very non-OEM.
I have an airbag/seatbelt warning and I want to repair it properly.
Does anyone know what connector or harness I need to buy?
Should I replace the full driver seat wiring harness, or can I repair it with an OEM yellow connector/pigtail?
Pictures attached.
Thanks!
Friend had these and said they were for my car but mine look different
Hey everyone, long time lurker first time poster. Looking for some honest opinions from people who actually own or have owned these cars.
I’m in Colombia, budget around $35-40M COP (~$8,500-10,000 USD). Looking for a daily driver to commute to university + weekend fun car. Occasional track day at a local quarter mile strip. Not a hardcore enthusiast but I do enjoy driving.
2008 BMW 325i E90
• Mileage: \~120,000 km (74,500 miles)
• Condition: appears clean, unknown full service history
2006 BMW 330i E90
• Mileage: 135,000 km (83,850 miles)
• Condition: unknown service history
2007 E91 , 320d , M47tü2 . Few days ago when driving towards Frankfurt, Germany.
Don’t mind the warning, it’s just low blinker fluid
After I crashed my 328i my boss offered to sell me his N55 335i for $1k, I think it’s a nice temporary solution I’ll take but want any advice on it since the car isn’t in great shape
- Blown head gasket (unsure of severity but losing oil/coolant, pressurizing coolant system from exhaust)
- 240k miles
- Some vanos/valvetronic issues (see codes)
- Fuel rail code
- Misc electronic issues (airbag, both restraint lights, top wont go down, driver door won’t lock)
Surprisingly the car runs not bad and I’d like to get the most enjoyment out of it as possible, it’s a nice spec and I’d like to have fun with it.
Any recommendations as to what should be done?
I feel like the blown head gasket is my main dealbreaker the repair is too much for what it’s worth, but I’m leaning towards trying some liquid gasket and moving forward from there, any opinions?
Thanks guys!
I’m 18 years old and really want a BMW as my first car. Some background: I still live with my parents, I don’t have any bills to pay, my school is already paid for, and I have a very stable part-time job. I make around $1200/month and basically all of it gets saved.
I really like the E90/E92 328i. I know people will hate me for this, but I honestly love NA cars. An M3 just isn’t in the budget right now.
I’d also be doing maintenance myself. I’ve been watching repair videos, learning about the platforms, and I genuinely want to learn how to work on cars properly instead of taking everything to a shop and paying 3x more.
The N52 honestly seems amazing to me. My goal would be to keep the car long-term and daily it to school, hangouts, road trips, etc. I’d probably keep it until very high mileage if possible. I really like the E92 coupe, but I know the E90 sedan is more practical.
I’d love to hear from actual BMW owners:
- How has your N52 experience been?
- What major problems have you had?
- Would you trust one long term?
- Manual or automatic for a first BMW?
I also like the F30 generation. I know the N20 has timing chain issues, but if you replace the timing chain and the common failing plastic parts early on, does it become a good long term daily? Or does it still end up being more problematic overall than an N52 car?
And yeah, I know everyone says “just get a Toyota/Honda at 18.” I hear it constantly But I want something I can genuinely be enthusiastic about and learn from mechanically. I know myself, and I just wouldn’t care about the car the same way.
Would love to hear your experiences and opinions. Thanks guys :)
So my service engine light came on yesterday. Took it to my mechanic to scan it and see what’s going on. It’s showing transmission fluid wear. Cool no problem. Issue is we don’t know when or if the trans flush was ever done. They’re telling me to drive it for a bit and see what happens bc (their words) doing a flush could fuck the trans up if there is something going on. Should I just say fuck it and upgrade the trans? Build one? Some direction would be cool. Let me know if you’ve encountered this before.
I have a 2007 E90 318d pre-LCI and the „normal“ seats (see first picture). I want to upgrade them to the M seats (see second picture). The seller has the seats from a wreck so I don’t know if the sensors are fine.
Does anyone know if I can just plug-and-play the seats or do the seats require wiring that I don’t have? And is there any way for me to check if the sensors are fine? I could install them and try but I don’t know if the seller has that much patience. And if the seats throw me an Airbag error message for example i won’t pass yearly inspections so I basically NEED to know that everything’s fine.
I hope at least one of y’all can hell me.
EDIT: I forgot to say, the seat is coming out of a pre-LCI E91
I drive an E90 M3 134k miles. Sadly my synchros are going in the manual transmission. There’s not a shop in my area that wants to touch or rebuild it. There is a new kit but they are charging $6k. So my best option is maybe find one from a wrecked E9X M3? Any help on this would be great. Thank you
After getting my oil changed on my 2011 e90 328 n51, I noticed that the ambient lighting on my gauge cluster, radio/AC control button area, and idrive dial have stopped coming on at night.
Is this just a coincidence or could something have happened at the shop? I plan to call them when I can but just wondering if anyone has any thoughts. Haven’t had any issues with it up until this point.
Hey guys I love adding cosmetic mods but also like to keep my car modest/closer to an oem+ style and not tacky.
Already I have:
Upgraded alloys
Retrofitted headlights
Added a CarPlay system
Wrapped interior trim
I understand I don’t have much other cosmetic mods left I could do without border lining tackiness.
Looking for any suggestions at all regardless though, to see if I’ve any options that’d tic my boxes.
Even any unique ideas you might’ve seen ? Like maybe a unique style for the interior trim panels that might but nicer than my current wrap, even really small things that people mightnt even notice but are a nice touch. Anything that you might’ve thought would be a nice touch at all etc.
Suggestions much appreciated!
Did anybody ever realized how loud some oil filters are on these cars? loudest one I used was from bosch the most silent one was MannFilter idk if there is a aftermarket option for this exact issue like some special filter.
Had a local guy fit up my Magnaflow muffler and Turner tips and am not super thrilled with how it turned out, plus I want a little more volume. Classic “buy it nice or buy it twice” experience.
For those with the Turner axle back (with muffler) how loud is it? This is my daily and I want some sound but not obnoxious. The idle/rev clips here only tell a part of the story, so I’d love to know long term if people are happy.
Hi guys,
Im from germany and yesterday i bought a 335i e93 with Stage 2+ mhd fbo..
car did run good just small things like 30FF code..
Today something very Bad happened! I stopped at a red light and The Engine Shut down.
After 2-3 min and praying to start up, it started (very Bad..) i luckily was near to my mecanic! I drove the car to his Garage, and then i Noticed a KNOCKING NOISE🧐 and a Little Bit of smoke from the left side of the hood (white smoke) i though okay maybe the knock is bc of the injectors… checked it with Carly and it says misfires on cylinders 5,3,2 and smth with ignition misfires too.
Okay Fine im gonna buy those index 12 and have some fun again…. Then my mecanic started the car, After 5 sec he told me: turn it Off, its a rod bearing failiure? Im shocked! I bought it yesterday…
But! In Germany we say „The Hope dies last“
The previous owner told me: The ac doesnt work! He tried to fill it up etc but it didnt work.. and 3-4 weeks ago he changed some pulleys down there.
I saw a video, can the AC Compressor fail sound like a rod knock? After clearing the codes the car runs fine, and the knock is not very loud! I Think it comes from
The front motor.
But i opened the oil lid and it really smells like a lot of unburned fuel…
I Need your help guys! Im so Sad Right now.
