Moving to a different state—want to remain with the company 🤞
Hi everyone! I currently work in the fragrance industry and recently found out that my partner received a significantly higher-paying job opportunity in another city. We’d be moving from a very large city to a mid-sized one, and financially it makes the most sense for us to relocate. I currently make around $60k, while his new role would be well into the six figures.
My dilemma is that I was only recently converted from a long-term contract role into a permanent employee at a large company. After spending months as a temp, I finally received company benefits and better better pay, so the timing feels difficult.
I’m feeling overwhelmed by the idea of starting over and applying for jobs in a different state so soon after finally getting settled. I’d really appreciate any advice from people who’ve been through something similar.
More specifically, how would you approach asking your company about transferring to another office/location? Is that something people typically bring up with their manager first, or HR?
