Kia ora, I have a 4m steep, small bank between me and a neighbour's property above. I'm on Wellington's south coast, but sheltered and not near the beach. The bank is west facing and gets some sun.

The bank is almost vertical near the top so (as well as doing some retaining) I'd like to shore it up with some plants and I'm looking for options. I was thinking flax, would this work? If so, what varieties? The larger varieties would probably dwarf the patio space below, but smaller might not be as effective in securing the bank.

If not flax, any suggestions?
