We're looking to move to Newham in the next few months and we have an almost 3 year old, so we're beginning to think about schools. I would like to book in some visits and figure out catchment areas for our child's school placements through infant to senior. Does anyone have any recommendations or general tips for schools in Newham?
I'm currently learning Restic and Backrest so I can migrate my personal backups away from cloud sync services and Time Machine. It is for 2 macOS computers, which i'm wanting to backup /Applications /Library /Users /Volumes, with a small exclusions list to cut down on waste.
I did a dry run yesterday and was seeing a lot of 'permission denied' and 'operation not permitted'. If I was running solely through Restic i could run the command as sudo, but is that possible through Backrest?
Is there a reason why some companies like to make customers jump through hoops or pay extra for VAT receipts? is there an incentive to have their customers not claim VAT relief?
A couple of examples - Uber, who have a invoice request and time delay, and EE, who charge users a premium for VAT receipts. There are others too, that don't just send automatically to email.
I'm not currently using 3-2-1 and am looking for a bit of help to remedy that, especially the off-site backup.
I have about 2TB on a personal laptop and 4TB on a home media server, both currently backing up to a local 16TB SSD over Time Machine. I am planning to add another 16TB drive so I have a 2nd local backup, and maybe switch to restic or borgbackup instead of TM.
The main thing I want to improve is my off-site backup. Currently I use pcloud for core files on the personal laptop, but I don't have an off-site backup for my home server. For the new backup solution I would like to service the full 6TB required, if the cost is manageable.. On pcloud I can get a lifetime 10TB for £1190, however I've recently heard it's not an ideal platform for proper backup, as it is not immutable.
I'm was thinking of trying Blazeback but aside from better security I'm not sure it is a good alternative for other pcloud features i like -
Should I be treating a cloud drive and off-site backup as separate entities, or is there a good option for a unified solution?
Finally I would ideally like the offsite backup to be from a UK or EU company and have their servers based there. I think this rules out Blazeback unfortunately but perhaps there are other good options.
I'm exporting my library to Immich however I have some images that have likely gone through messaging services and had their metadata largely stripped. Images are ordered correctly in Lightroom with a seemingly intact camera capture date/time, however EXIF and IPTC date/time fields are empty. When I export the photos to upload to Immich, EXIF date/time is populated by the export or upload date/time and then ordered incorrectly in Immich.
I have opened the original jpg image in exiftool but it doesn't see the capture date/time that Lightroom is seeing. Is there another way I can copy the capture date/time that Lightroom is seeing to EXIF fields?
Hi I've been trying for a few hours to config adguard home and am not getting anywhere.
Recommended port is 53 but it is already in use by internal macos services, so essentially off limits. I decided on 5000, but my Unifi router will only accept a ip without a port number, so i'm not sure how to point it to the right port, and have read that it defaults to 53.. Ollama suggested I use dnsmasq to redirect traffic from port 5000 to 53 but it's suggested commands did not work for me.
Is this a bit advanced for a novice, and perhaps not worth pursuing with without a good background in networking? or have i missed something obvious?
