how different would the story be if ash was a girl?

how different would the story be if ash was a girl?

i'm not talking about asheiji specifically (since yoshida has stated multiple times that ash & eiji's relationship would stay the same regardless of gender). i'm talking about the actual plot and ash's character, as well as some minor/major differences in both the story and how the other characters (as well as the fandom) would treat ash if he was written as female. what do you guys think?

possibly the oldest banana fish fic (seriously)

because banana fish has been around for so long, i started wondering what the first fanfic was and when it might’ve been written. but up until 1999, the manga was only available in japan, meaning banana fish had a super niche american fanbase. and around 90% of the fics that were published during this period are pretty much lost.

however, in 2002, there was a website created called boyfruit, made for english-speaking banana fish fans to express their love for the manga & share fan content nd whatnot. the site has since been deactivated, but through internet archive, you can see what it looked like as well as links to fan content.

boyfruit homepage

among this fan content? a fanfic. and i genuinely think i might’ve found the oldest banana fish fanfiction on the internet (in english at least). it’s from december 11th, 2002.

https://web.archive.org/web/20021211040543/http://boyfruit.kinmoku.net/kay_reason.html

sure, this most likely isn’t the oldest bf fic EVER, but it’s probably the oldest recovered one. it’s so cool seeing banana fish being praised all the way back in 2002, i wonder where all those fans are now.

what does mizu plan to do after getting her revenge?

mizu's sole mission is to hunt down and kill all 4 white men in order to get revenge on her father for violating her mother and making her a "monster", right? let's assume mizu accomplishes this. she kills the remaining white men in london and ensures that her father is dead.. what is she going to do afterwards? has she even thought about it? assuming she stays in japan, she's still going to face racism and discrimination for being half-white, she'll still have to conceal her blue eyes and hide the fact that she's a woman, none of that changes. besides avenging her mother and killing the men she sought to kill, what is mizu gaining and what do you think she's even going to do with her life after achieving her goal?

if this theory ends up being true, how do you think mizu will react?

so we all know the theory that rather than one of the 4 white men being mizu’s father, instead, it’s mizu’s mother who’s a westerner, and her father japanese. i feel like this is a pretty popular assumption.

but what i’m curious to know is how mizu would react if this DID end up being the case. spending her entire life hunting down and killing her potential father just to find out that that it’s her mother who’s the reason she’s mixed race, i feel like that’d be really interesting.

but my question is, do you think mizu’s goal would stay the same? do you think she’d direct all her anger towards her mother and kill her the same way she’d have killed the other white men for ruining her life?

throughout the show, i’ve noticed mizu has a bit more disdain for men than women (as we see in the difference in the way she treats them), and part of the reason she wants to kill her father so much is because it’s said that he violated her mother, so if this theory ends up being true, things would have probably gone down differently. just curious as to what this sub thinks.

what are some of your predictions for s2?

i don’t mean predictions we all know for sure are going to happen at some point (like taigen finding out that mizu is a woman). i mean predictions that you think might come true due to whats happened in the show up until now, or maybe small hints you’ve noticed while watching, or literally just anything specific you think has the possibility of happening lmao

i've been watching the BF dub on netflix with a VPN and here are my thoughts so far!! (currently on ep 9)

first off, love ash's voice. i don't understand why so many people think he sounds too old or too flat, he sounds like a normal 17 year old boy imo. plus, the monotone smart-ass voice really suits him and makes the more emotional scenes hit WAY harder when he finally breaks.

shorter, skipper, sing, jessica, charlie, and arthur all sound perfect. almost exactly how i'd imagine them to sound based on the japanese sub. no complaints.

eiji? ehhhh... definitely unique, but he hardly has an accent and speaks pretty fluent english. was really hoping they'd stick to the broken english but oh well. other than that, the VA nailed his soft and awkward attitude.

as for max, i didn't really like his voice at first (since i didn't imagine he'd sound so young), but over the course of a couple episodes, it's definitely grown on me.

yut lung is alright. was kindaaa hoping he'd sound a bit cuntier but i think his voice suits him nonetheless (he sounds a lot like ash tbh).

i absolutely fucking LOVE dino's voice, honestly best performance so far. he sounds so sinister and raspy and like an ACTUAL OLD MAN. 10/10.

ibe just sounds like an american dude. no accent whatsoever.

there are lots of dialogue tweaks (as there usually is with any anime dub), but many of the changes are beneficial other than a few that seemed unnecessary, but that's practically it. one thing i was worried about were the emotional scenes (which there are a lot of...), but so far the VA's do a REALLY good job at conveying the raw emotion that was present in the japanese sub, so no complaints about that.

might update this when i've finished watching (so i can include characters like blanca and foxx), but yeah! don't listen to the BF fans complaining on tiktok, it's a solid dub and the performances are great, and i just KNOW hearing eiji's letter in english is going to destroy me.

looking for books similar to carrie and firestarter

pretty much just books where the main character with crazy abilities struggles with feeling alienated and such (and there aren't other characters with powers). bonus points if the mc finally snaps near the end.

-no YA
-preferably teenage protagonist (or a little older)
-more female centered

yeah thats about it

what are some books that center around a character with BPD (borderline personality disorder), or just a book about BPD itself?

could be nonfiction or fiction but preferably the former

excess skin after losing weight

over the last year or so, i've lost around 15lbs. i'm almost at my weight goal but i still have excess skin that won't go away and i have no clue how to get rid of it. my face (specifically my cheeks) are really stretchy due to excess skin, as well as my underarms. not only do i hate how it looks but it also makes me really sweaty. how can i fix this without getting any surgery??
