Aspiring Military Enlistees in the Denton & Frisco areas

Hello everyone, this may be a long shot, but I wanted to put this out there.

If anyone in the Frisco / Denton area is already planning to enlist in the military soon Army, I’d be incredibly grateful if you’d consider letting me refer you.

You’re already making an amazing decision for your future either way, but a referral could also help support my family in the process, my wife, daughter, and I are working hard to build a better future, and any opportunity like that would mean a lot to us.

No pressure at all, just reaching out to see if there’s a kind soul out there who was already planning to take that path and wouldn’t mind helping a family of 3 along the way.

Feel free to DM me if you’d be open to it or have questions. I truly appreciate it either way, and thank you to anyone serving or considering service.

What should i study as a 42a?

Future 42A here, what should I study? I’m torn between Business Admin, Finance/Accounting, or Computer Science + certs. My interests are AG, Finance, Quartermaster, and possibly 17A, but I’m worried about going all-in on CS for 17A if lack of direct IT experience makes that unrealistic. If you were using 42A strategically, what degree path would you choose and why?

Best Permanent Duty Station for a 42A (Family, COL, Housing, Low Crime, Deployment Tempo?

Hey everyone, future 42A here looking for strategic insight while narrowing down my Option 19 duty station choices.

I want to clarify upfront — I’m not looking for some unrealistic “perfect” duty station or trying to completely avoid deployments, bad leadership, or Army unpredictability. I fully understand those risks exist everywhere.

What I am trying to do is mitigate risk as much as possible on the front end by choosing the duty station that seems to offer the best overall balance of my top priorities compared to others.

My main priorities are:

Cost of living
Strong housing market / home buying potential
Low crime / safer family environment
Reasonable deployment / rotation tempo
Family time (wife + daughter)
Opportunity for Tuition Assistance / Green to Gold

I know unit, leadership, and assignment type (FORSCOM, TRADOC, etc.) can matter just as much — if not more — than the base itself, and I’m taking that seriously.

But because I actually do have Option 19 and a substantial list of duty stations to choose from, I’m trying to be as informed and strategic as possible before making that call.

So for those with real experience:

Which duty stations seem to offer the strongest
overall balance of these priorities, even if none are perfect?

Appreciate any honest insight. I’m not chasing perfection, just trying to make the smartest calculated decision possible.

Best Permanent Duty Station for a 42A (Family, COL, Housing, Low Crime, Deployment Tempo?

Hey everyone, future 42A here trying to do some real long-term research before selecting my duty station of choice.

My biggest priorities are:

Cost of living
Housing market / home buying potential
Low crime / safe family areas
Deployment / rotation tempo
Family stability (wife + daughter)
Time for Tuition Assistance / Green to Gold

I know leadership, commute, scenery, or city life matter a lot to some people, but those honestly aren’t huge priorities for me. I currently work as an Area Manager at Amazon with 25 direct reports, so I already understand high-pressure environments and difficult leadership. I’m pretty optimistic and can push through a lot if the bigger picture (family, finances, education) makes sense.

I fully understand deployments are part of Army life — I’m just trying to be strategic and find the best balance between service, family time, and long-term opportunity.

Would especially appreciate insight from other 42As or admin-side soldiers on whether certain duty stations or unit types (FORSCOM vs TRADOC, etc.) made a major difference. And or current/former soldiers with families, or anyone who can speak on how much unit type or duty station really changes quality of life.

If you were optimizing for family, finances, and future education from day one, where would you look first?
