Blade of Fire Review (+- 20 hours)

First time posting a game review because this one feels underrated – Blade of Fire

For context, I’m a 35-year-old gamer dad and a big fan of souls-like games. I’ve played and finish Elden Ring (+ DLC), DS3, all Nioh titles, Remnant 2, Rise of the Ronin, Code Vein, Lords of the Fallen (2023), Lies of P (base game), Wo Long, Black Myth: Wukong, Mortal Shell, Thymesia, Bleak Faith, etc.

I’ve spent around 20 hours in Blade of Fire. Here’s my honest take:

Overall impressions
It’s definitely a souls-like, but with a stronger RPG/story focus.

What I like

Combat mechanics: Feels familiar for souls fans: stamina management, dodge, block (and parry), quick vs charged attacks, and stance system. There’s also rechargeable flask-style healing.

Story: Honestly more engaging than I expected. It’s not just background filler. However if you don;t like long dialog you might not like it.

Exploration: This is a big plus. Tons of hidden rooms and secrets, so exploring actually feels rewarding.

Weapon forging: One of the standout systems. Crafting and weapons is quite interesting and adds depth.

What could be better

Performance: Graphics are solid, but I’ve experienced occasional stutters and freezes. Also noticed a possible bug: if you leave the game running in the background, it can push GPU usage to 100%.

Build variety: Feels limited. There doesn’t seem to be a full armor system—mostly focused on weapon types and crafting.

Difficulty: There are difficulty options:

Steel = good balance if you want a challenge. Best for soul-like veteran. However boss enemy still very difficult, like typ soul games.

Titanium = very punishing, even for souls veterans

Final thoughts

Overall, this is a solid souls-like. If you’ve run out of games in the genre, this one is worth trying.

Don’t take my word for everything—the devs provide a demo, so I recommend trying that first.

Personally, since I don’t have any other souls-like games left at the moment, I can see myself putting another 50+ hours into this.

Additions

It have Big Hammer / Axe and Large Sword. So Unga Bunga Build, with charge attach is possible. It also can chop enemy head or part of it body with charge attack (it can even cut troll face). Very satisfiying if you like Unga Bunga build.
