How difficult is an internal transfer from Comm Eng to Mech Eng?

Hey Guys, Grade 12 here. I just got an alternate offer for Communications Engineering but I was really aiming for Mechanical.

If I accept the Comm Eng offer (comes with a scholarship/residence), how risky is it to bank on an internal transfer to Mech for 2nd year? I've heard first-year Eng is mostly the same courses,

but is the transfer process itself super competitive or just a standard GPA cutoff?

For context, I’m coming in with a 100% in CS and strong physics grades, but my Advanced Functions took a hit due to an administrative issue. Just trying to figure out if I should take the risk for the Kanata/Ottawa hub or just go to my backup (Ontario Tech) for direct Mech entry.

any advice would be greatly appreciated!
